Review: Alden Indy Boots are thousand dollar junk

Rose Anvil wore a pair of Shell Cordovan Alden Indy boots for six months. Verdict: thousand dollar junk.
Actually, what he said was they were falling apart.
Heels made of cardboard, no midsole, cheap materials used. Several people in the comments said they spent another $500 at Bedo's Leatherworks to get them made properly.
I wonder if that embezzlement a few years ago made Alden go cheap on construction.

Why would anyone spend that much on boots? Unless they were made of some crazy leather like albino crocodile.

The idea is that if built like they used to be (some are) they can be recrafted and last decades, they can be cheaper than replacing many type of shoes that can't be recrafted over their lifetime.

I’m surprised to hear this. Alden’s are generally very well made.
My preferred boots are RM Williams. Equally expensive but very high quality.

Shell boots going to run you $800 or. more depending on manufacturer.
Bedos owner took his pair, replaced neocork sole with virbram sole, replaced the leatherboard, made a real midsole, and made a real leather heel.

Naw, if so he probably would have posted about PNW loggers like White's, Frank's, JK, or Nick's.

$1000 is 10+ pairs of shoes.
This whole “Land Cruiser logic” is just ridiculous.

I have $600 JK work boots. They're great.
But if you're talking about boots to wear with "nice" clothes, then I don't know what to tell you.

actually its 2-3 pairs of properly made shoes.
I wonder if the embezzlement hurt Alden and forced it to use cheaper materials in the boots. Alden is not that big of a company and is privately owned. Allen Edmonds could fall back on Caleras but Alden doesn't have that safety net. It would make sense if the shortfall forced it to cut corners.

It depends on how you look at it. I have several pairs of shoes that cost over $500 when I bought them over 25 years ago. They have all been resoled several times and some have been recrafted. They all are far more comfortable and look just as good as they did when new. The disposable goods mentality is what sucks the life out of American and other 1st world manufacturers. I choose to buy quality long-lasting goods and support companies that make quality things whenever I can.

Or Nick's and you worked in the woods every day as a logger or wildland firefighter. Of course Nick's is the complete opposite of the boots in question.
