https://www.newsweek.com/woman-supported-wanting-leave-obese-husband-1756555
This is one real world example of an actual case of this happening.
https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/women-gain-weight-after-marriage-men-after-divorce-flna1c9456320
This study shows women are 46% more likely to gain weight after marrying when compared to those who remain single. Men however don’t gain weight after marriage but are more likely to gain after a divorce.
So women get fat from having kids and men consider dumping them for a skinny single who will only turn around and get fat after they get married.
Do you think divorce over weight gain is a legitimate grounds for divorce?
I would love to hear from anyone who did this or if someone dumped you over weight gain or knows someone that did or any lawyers who have seen this.

Weight gain can mean a few different things.
So the answer is maybe depending on what you mean by weight gain and the specific circumstances.

No. But I think a lot of reasons aren’t really good enough reasons to get a divorce.

If you take your vows seriously, then no.

No one should get married to begin with.

Weight gain can be a blessing in disguise. Sex with a big girl is great but marrying a big girl can be embarrassing. In some ways her gaining weight after marriage is the best of both worlds. Just keep some nudes around from when she was skinny.

If a man or a woman has really let themselves go (think tremendous change in their physical appearance and health) and the other spouse is no longer physically attracted to them OR the weight gain is placing an undue burden on the non-obese spouse (such as in the article posted in OP), then there is a problem they need to discuss. But the obese spouse's response to this discussion is key: if they express some sort of interest in losing the weight, then all is well, but if they're offended, then the couple is in trouble.
If there is a medical reason for the weight gain, then that's a different story.

Sorry to hear about your plump wife.

It really depends for me. It wouldn't be the first option to divorce someone and we're not talking 10-15 or even 25 lbs. We're talking gaining upwards of 100lbs+. I honestly feel like I have a responsiblity to my wife to stay active and in shape and she owes me the same. It's pretty selfish to put on obese levels of jelly and expect your spouse to still be attracted to you.
To consider a full on divorce though, it would have to be a pretty extreme situation.

Yes. You might crush her with your fatness.

No. If you truly love your spouse and believe in the sanctity of marriage there’s only a couple of legitimate causes for divorce and this isn’t one of them.
ETA-within reason. If we’re talking about morbid obesity that is a bigger issue but should still be addressed and worked through together. Nothing is black and white and there are always extenuating circumstances.

You're correct that you have a duty to your wife to stay thin so you can live longer and better and provide for your family.

No, pretty weak marriage if a change in looks sends you looking for a divorce

100%. And not only to stay attractive so she enjoys sex. How can I protect my wife from danger if I can't walk around without a scooter at the grocery store? How can I carry my kids out of the house if the place catches fire? How can I tell her I want to be with her as long as I can but kill myself a little bit at a time with food?

Not sure, a friend of mine gained 40 lbs after having two kids, the husband (who was not small) said she needed to lose weight or he’d leave, she lost 60!! Lbs he left anyway - they got divorced and not too long ago, he married a woman who is bigger than my friend was before she lost the weight
