A lot of great memories growing up in the 70s and 80s but there is no doubt it was the height of activity for serial killers and sexual predators. Since we were all basically latch key kids and it was pre DNA really not much surprise.

Also sexual crimes like rape and statutory rape were treated like low level crimes and rarely even reported at all.

You don't say? They probably had them in the 50s and 60s as well, but the term serial killer wasn't used until sometime in the 70s.

So before that, if there were a string of murders within a certain radius it wasn't like they were thinking "maybe we have a serial killer on our hands".

A lot of crazy shite went on in those days, we just didn't hear about it like we do today.

A man tried to snatch my wife off the street in Virginia when she was like 10 and when I was 14-15 the boxing coach really pursued me hard to join the boxing team, (allegedly because I was really tall and strong for my weight). My Dad declined.

Many decades later it was revealed that although they it was a good boxing club it was also a grooming place for gay sexual abuse and part of sex ring and the victims were in the dozens. Including many of my friends. We probably all had a close call somewhere

Was easier to get away with it back then. Now with everyone having cell phones, cameras on every corner , gps tracking. Can’t get your rocks off by killing a couple of gay truckers in a systematic pattern. Now we gotta act normal and visit truck stop glory holes. “Siri, delete this post”

Exactly. The 24 hour news cycle and worldwide connectivity has led to information overload. Man was never meant to know about the terrible things happening everywhere.

Stream and watch the movie "M." No shite. Watch it tonight. It was filmed in Germany in 1931. That will fill you in on whether any of this is either new or just in America. And it's one of the best movies ever made.

Yeah early 1930s Germany was definitely a hotbed of sexual perversion. Especially depicted in cinema. People got really mad about this actually. Like really mad. It wasn't just accepted as normal. It was kind of big, how mad they got. Your director and most involved in the film fled the country a few years later. So yeah
