4 year old shot in crossfire off Peach street in MLK, firefight between group of scholars. Probably a competing group of Edisonites vs. Tesla adherents.

Officials reported that there were more than 60 rounds fired off, from at least more than one different weapon.
This is the third shooting that occurred in Shreveport on Saturday.

I’ll be curious if the new mayor can truly clamp down on the mess that his predecessor’s have created.. at least he will try

Just realized Shreveport has a Republican mayor. When did that happen?!

Few weeks ago. Won runoff vs Greg Tarver. Incumbent was Perkins who didn’t make the run-off.

Shreveport went against the grain and elected a solid mayor in Tom Arceneaux. Surprisingly he got the support of the black leaders in the community. It will be interesting to see what he can accomplish.

The drive through Shreveport on I-20 is one of the most depressing sights of scenery I have ever seen.
Shut down plants
Abandoned buildings
Homes falling down
Outdated, decrepit infrastructure
Unused, busted up ball parks and parking lots overgrown with weeds

that's a lot of words when they could have just said "multiple weapons."

Pssshhh.....NOLA is at 12 murders already. They broke into double figures yesterday. They've doubled up the first week of the year compared to last year.

While much of Shreveport's populace over the years has moved out of the City, (and who can blame them..) there is a grassroots movement afoot along side the election of the new Mayor that actually gives me some room for optimism.
Shreveport Citizens United is making a push to address crime and violence at the community level. See Facebook Link
Not an easy fix and no one thinks it is but its a step in the right direction...

I believe it was 6 shot in 4 different crime scenes, and they were shooting again this morning, too. I’d like to put a wall around Hollywood Heights and tell them to figure it out themselves.
Republican mayor is a step in the right direction, but City Council is still 5-2 Dem/Rep, so I bet we don’t get THAT much done, but I do have a little high hopes

Shreveport-Bossier via I-20 is awful for a variety of reasons.
Most of the Shreveport side is either ghetto or decaying industrial areas.
The only decent sites are close to the Red River and crossing into Bossier. However, there are several entrance and exit ramps on both sides that are only about 15 feet long, and interstate lanes randomly end. I don’t know how there aren’t continuous wrecks from the casinos in Bossier to the I-49 interchange.
The Bossier stretch goes through slightly better areas, but I-20 in Bossier has to be the worst stretch of interstate in America.

That was absolutely the best thing to happen though. It split more votes in the primary to ensure Tom would get to the runoff. Then the fact Tarver (who doesn't even live in Shreveport himself) filed that suit against Perkins turned the black political power brokers against him (including the 3 previous mayors) and they all endorsed Tom and helped give him the upset.
And most importantly it gives him a head start on winning over the D's on city council and other parts of Shreveports laughable government.
