At what age did you add a kid as authorized user or open them their own account?

I got my son a student checking account when he was 13, Capitol One was the only bank we could find that would set it for us....of course we had control over it but it was his money, I just had to sign him up and authorize him to have it......not many banks will open up an account for kids under 16

I get why ppl do this but I don’t know if I would ever do it. I’m an independent type where I’d rather them earn their own credit if they’re going to borrow. If they need help or whatever that’s where I’d help out.
Regular attached checking and saving they’re on because their money goes there. That was opened as soon as I could.

I don't remember exactly, but my son was 15 or so when I opened a Money account for him. Same deal. It was really convenient the more he was staying after school for activities. Just got him a debit card.

I had a checking account at 11-12ish through Campus Federal. I think the first card I got was from another local credit union at 15 or so.
First one through a major bank (Chase) was right before I left for college.
I was never an authorized user on my parents cards but, my little brother was (Guess who they trusted more?)

I got our youngest a debit card when she was old enough to go places with friends and no adults. It's just an online account that I can transfer money to. The service is called Copper. I think she was 14 or so when I got her one.

13 for credit cards as a authorized user. But you can do it younger on some cards. Some they have to be 15 I think..
Worked out well for my daughter. She had a 790 credit score as soon as she turned 18.
Capital one has a good child checking account available for kids 8+ that has a child and adult version of the app for it.
I got both of mine checking accounts around 10. Once they started getting money I wanted to keep seperate.

We opened out sons checking account and issued him a debit card at 12. All money given as presents or for chores are deposited directly there and he pays for his own entertainment.

It’s not about trust, younger siblings just always get more leeway. Example, I begged for a 3000 gt but got an 85 Cressida. Younger brother a few years after got a 3000 gt
The babies always win. Except somehow my oldest gets away with anything compared to my other kids. Funny because I’m the oldest and my wife is the baby of her siblings.

This for my family too and I was born in the 80's. Dad gave us credit cards attached to his account. Got Shell cards when we turned 15.

Well they can't have credit cards except as authorized users. I'll add them as a user to help them build credit, but I'm sure not handing over a card with a 20k+ limit to them.
