Proud dog moment for the OT

My wife(no pics)wanted a golden doodle a couple of years ago and I agreed the kids need a dog. We sent him to some obedience/retriever training and he’s been an excellent pet for the last two years. Last year I let him track two deer, even though he had no idea why he was there.
I shot a deer just before dark yesterday and there was no evidence that I made contact and I was convinced I missed. I decided to put him out just to see what he’d do and he found the deer within a minute. I was one proud dog owner. We turned a Pinterest dog into a bloodhound. Thought you guys would enjoy.

People have hunted with golden doodles for centuries. They were bread as duck dogs.

I'm just sitting here laughing at the visual of a Golden Doodle bouncing through the woods all goofy like "It's over here Dad. Come on!!"
They're great dogs.
They're great dogs.

A few years ago my buddy and I were stuck dog sitting his parents Weiner dog during hunting season and decided to take him to the stand. This dog was about 8 years old at the time and was strictly a house dog.
My buddy shot a doe, but we were have trouble finding it. As we walking through the woods trying to track it down that little dog was just following us.
We ran out of blood and came to a split where that deer either went left or right. We were convinced the deer went right, and as went right that little dog took off in a dead sprint running left. We took off after the dog scared we were going to lose him in the woods, and when we caught up to him he was sitting next to the deer. We knew some people use those dogs to track, but we were shocked it did so with zero training.

I’ve heard you can turn any dog into a deer trailing dog by doing this. Great work!

My former golden doodle (dog was gotten in a relationship and it ended. She kept the dog, still heartbroken, tbh) would retrieve birds. Great animals.

Poodles and Goldens are hunting dogs. It makes sense your boy went to work.

That Weiner dog was just doing what it was bred to do for centuries in Germany. They're a hunting breed believe it or not.

That's pretty cool, but you know poodles were once used as retrievers so your with a mix of poodle and lab, that sucka must have been in his element tracking that deer.

1. Outdoor Board
2. That’s pretty freakin cool.
3. If I saw a golden doodle tracking a deer in the woods I’d probably laugh so hard I’d shart myself.
