Headed to Glacier for 5 days and then Canmore foe 5 says in July and looking for activity recommendations. I already have accommodations set up and vehicle passes for Glacier. We are planning to do a good bit of hiking but open to recommendations for other activities. Fishing, rafting , atv rental, good restaurants etc. family of 4 with active 9&12 yo kids. Thanks

Why stay in Canmore? I would stay closer to park or actually in park. The town of Banff has many accommodations.

Honestly, a friend was there last year and recommended, Canmore and everything else was booked.

* Take the Banff gondola and do lunch at the top
* Visit Two Jack Lake and Lake Minnewanka
* Columbia Icefield tour vehicle, and walk on the Athabasca glacier
* Columbia Icefields Skywalk
* Eat at both Fairmont Hotels in the area, Chateau Lake Louise and Fairmont Banff Springs, "the castle"

Me and the fiancé are going to be in Banff and Canmore the 20th-25th of July. We got a place (fox hotel) in Banff for 3 nights then 2 in Kananaskis at the end.
Can’t wait

It may be too late, but look into getting a ticket to ride bus to Lake O’hara. Most beautiful spot on earth. We didn’t have bus tickets, so we took a chance that 3 people wouldn’t show up and got lucky. You will not believe this place!

Do you have to take a bus or can you drive there? We’re going in July to the Banff/Lake Louise area.

Bus or 7 mile hike. Google it, may be able to get tickets. Trust me well worth it. No car acess.

The hike to Johnson Falls is not far and beautiful area. From Banff it is up the road toward Lake Louisa a little bit.
While in Lake Louisa, a ride up the sky resort has nice view of the valley and a good chance to see a Grizzly bear out feeding.
There are lots of water falls along the Hwy driving up to Jasper and great views of mountains along the way.

Do the hidden lake trail at Logan pass in GNP and the highline trail if it’s open. Lots of good hikes out of the many glacier area including iceberg lake.
Have been a dozen times and going back this year. You’ll love it.

Drive up past Lake Louise and stay at Emerald Lake Lodge. You'll thank me later.
Seriously, you could spend weeks in this beautiful part of the world. Banff is fun. We stayed at the venerable Banff Springs Hotel. Older, but really cool. Has a Shining kind of vibe.
Also have stayed at the Chateau Lake Louise. Some of the prettiest scenery in the world. Make sure to visit Moraine Lake. Wow.
We also stayed at Baker Creek Cabins once if you'd prefer the cabin experience.

Just got back yesterday. Stayed in Canmore. Glad we weren’t in Banff. A little too crowded and touristy.
Canoe on Emerald Lake in Yoho.
Hike the Teahouse Trail at Lake Agnes near Louise. Possibly the little beehive trail if your kids are up for it.
A great short hike near Canmore is the Grassi Lakes trail. Beautiful.
Lots of wildlife being spotted in Spray Lakes area.
Went fishing on Lake Minnewanka, and while awesome scenery, the fishing sucked.
Icefields parkway is cool, lots of stop offs for lakes, waterfalls, etc. mistaya canyon and Johnston canyon were cool.
Athabasca glacier hike was cool.
