Jalen Carter is subject of arrest warrant in Athens after being implicated by police for racing in the crash that took the life of former teammate, and UGA staffer.

At first, Jalen Carter told police he was nearly a mile away when a UGA teammate and a football staff member died in a car crash. Now, his presence at the scene on Jan. 15 and his shifting accounts alter the police narrative that it was a single-car crash.

Both charges against Jalen Carter are misdemeanors, Athens-Clarke County spokesman confirms.

Georgia falling apart. Someone will get a late round or UDFA steal now.

ETA: thought he was the driver of the vehicle with the two dead kids. I’ll accept my lashings

If the warrant is for crim neg homicide (or worse), he won’t be playing football anytime soon.
ETA: the warrant is only for reckless driving which is a petty misdemeanor. He’ll be fine. OP needs to update post to include charged offense.

I would bet my house he is good enough that he will end up playing. He didn't murder somebody. Some team will sign him for cheap after this case wraps.

McShay got roasted for scooping that there were "character issues" with Carter. Looks like he knew what he was reporting.

Very much doubt that. Everyone involved in what happened that night made horrible decisions and should be held accountable for them, but racing and reckless driving, which are the crimes for which the warrants were issued, are both misdemeanors under Georgia law.

This.
The story is a byproduct of sensationalist journalism. Carter was racing, but evidently the girl who was driving the other car (purportedly while intoxicated) was a willing participant. And it was a single vehicle accident.
Not a good look for Carter. And he probably ought to stash some money from his first contract away for the civil lawsuit. But there doesn't seem to be anything there now indicating he can be charged in the death of the two people in the other car.
