Watch Shelvin during his sack play

I don't know the circumstances at the time i.e. was it his first play in a rotation, second or third play, how good was the center, or if it was an obvious passing down - but watch the effort Shelvin makes in his push to get to the QB who had dropped back to pass. He's bullrushing and handfighting like crazy! If he keeps it together and continues to work hard to get in optimal playing shape, he could be a real star next year on the DL.

That’s odd. The video that you posted is buffering for me. Anyone else?

He could be a beast next year if he gets his shite together. Seems like he's starting to.

I always Understood that he probably can’t play 60 snaps,
But when you need depth at a position, I never Understood why he could go 15 snaps over the course of a game?
People act like he couldn’t take three steps without being winded. He was always a mound of humanity. Yet henpkayed full games in high school without dying

I think if Shelvin drops about 20 more pounds he will have better quickness o get rid of the blocker and get to the QB a little quicker. He has such great upper body strength it's amazing. But, yea, that was a great power rush.

Creating that interior push that makes it much harder for QBs to throw. Hope he has a hell of an offseason. Better DL play and OL play has us in the playoffs next year with that schedule.

Would love to see him develop into another "Mount Cody" in the middle of the line.
But, I watched him live last night for a few plays through binoculars. Rice's center rolled him back one time like he was on roller skates. Pad level too high and no push in defending a running play. Got to get much better.

DL get winded and beat up and get less effective without a doubt. But the experienced ones hide it better or sometimes make up for it with better technique.

This is a guy who missed almost an entire season of football this year solely because he didn't have enough self-discipline to put down the fork. Ten bucks says that he'll be back to his morbid-obesity-cant-climb-a-flight-of-stairs weight by the start of fall camp.

However, I think this might have been the 'light bulb coming on' for him. He sat for most of the year, had some twitter bitching and moaning, then lost some weight and got on the field. He did his part, and got rewarded.
I'm hoping that was a tipping point for him and that he sees now what it takes. Have to say, he's made the most of it. I'm guessing he's played 20 snaps all year and has 5 tackles, 1 sk, and 1 almost sack (Arky). We can all see the potential. Here's to hoping HE sees the path to realizing his own potential.

Your not going to get an accurate evaluation of any LSU player when the my are playing Rice. Try again this week.

I was impressed with Tyler Shelvin. He really does look in much better shape and he played a fair number of snaps against Rice. You're right, if he continues to work hard like he has been he will be a force on the DL next season.

If he could give us that push up the middle like Sheldon Rankins has been doing this year, you are exactly right. When the QB had that pressure up the middle it tends to push him into the DE on one side or the other.

Because teams, knowing he was out of shape, would go hurry-up to prevent substitution. After three plays - assuming they picked up a first down - they would be playing against a 10 man defense.

I can’t speak about his entire high school career, but I watched his entire senior year and he did not play entire games. Far from it. He would actually “play” 3 or 4 snaps a game. He was really good those 3-4 snaps, the rest of the time.....meh. I hope he gets it together and can make a contribution. He definitely has the potential, I just worry about his drive.

It was Rice. All you can honestly grade him on is effort.

My god that effort and want was beautiful.

He does look to be in better shape though
We don't need him to be a world beater right now. We need him to continue to improve so he can be a monster for us by next season
