Are we being over confident about our WR group?

Honestly, Malik Nabers is the only one who has proven that he’s worth a crap. Everyone else has either been meh or is just unproven.

BTJ hasn’t done much yet, and Kyren Lacy was a drop machine at times last year.

Mason Taylor is a good option at TE, but the WR group is pretty unproven.

I feel better now that we don’t have to force the ball to Kayshon Boutte and Daniels will be improved in the passing game.

I tend to agree to a point. However Malik is being touted as the second WR taken in draft behind Harrison. And BTJ was much more good than bad. Unreal measurables and an absolute stud.

I agree Lacey had drop
Issues but he also may be the fastest position player we have in the open field and runs like a 6’1 gazelle.

You also failed to mention the 3-4 others on our depth who can easily be our #2

We are being overconfident but Nabers is a legit #1 and this below is entirely true of the group from a raw talent, athleticism, measurables standpoint

I expect Nabers will be a really good WR and whoever emerges as second/third/fourth guys will have beat out a bunch of very other good but not as polished yet players

No, there’s too many. Nabors and lacy have no excuses. Lacy had some growing pains but got the experience and has the the speed and strength. Otherwise there’s a couple ready for a shot.

Last year, pretty much everyone agreed that WR and DL were our strengths going into the season. One DL injury and whatever happened to Boutte sure changed the feel of things. This year, I feel like we have lots of talent chomping at the bit to see the field if someone goes down or just doesn’t perform.

Nah man. #8 is bonafide. BTJ has shown you he's legit. Even if reports of Lacy's off season are greatly exaggerated: Anderson was a 5 star, and at least one of the freshmen could probably give you SEC starter reps if needed.

It’s not really a terrible post. Our wide receiver room is very deep but lacks a legit proven number 2 option like some other elite WR rooms.

A bunch of guys have the ability and talent to step up into that spot but OP is not that far off. BTJ graded out barely above a replacement level wide receiver last year and also barely graded above Boutte. Lacy graded below both of those guys. As pointed out, we have guys with the talent to step up and be a top tier receiver room, but it’s not all been proven yet. Especially not proven across an entire season.

Lacy had 2 bad drops against A&M last year. Prior to that he seemed to be the go to on 3rd downs, he’ll be fine

BTJ blocking Eli Ricks into the bleachers against Bama is more than enough to avoid saying anything negative about him

Lacy hauled in a massive freak circus catch in spring game. I have faith he will break out this year

No.

This is going to be one of the deepest wr rooms I can remember. Just wait till they add the 4 from the 20q3 recruiting class.
