All of the “This Team vs Wade’s Teams”

Will Wade is gone. McMahon is a good coach and we will have a good program under him. Will Wade was also a good coach and we had a good program under him, these things are not mutually exclusive. Why can’t we comment on the quality of the team without bashing Wade or comparing the teams in the process?

I know one thing, if CWW was still coaching the Tigers with the same results this team has so far this board would be full of threads praising CWW on a daily basis.

Because LSU fans love to compare current coaches to former coaches. It’s why every time Brian Kelly stepped up to a microphone this year, there were immediately 5 threads started about Orgeron or Miles.

No they would not. With the talent his team was bringing in this year nobody would be happy with him if he already had a loss. I think McMahon may be a better game day coach than Wade but Wade brought in much better players and that is more important in basketball. Especially since Wade could also coach. McMahon’s current recruiting class isn’t looking very good at all and I don’t know of any remaining top prospects we have a shot with. Hopefully there is a surprise or two and the next class brings in some big time players.

Wade brought in great players but he was a terrible coach. He would get 5 stars and just let them play street ball. And no, I don’t dislike Wade. I was actually a big fan because he was so good at recruiting.

They really don’t like to compare coaches, they love to shite on all the previous coaches. Don’t understand that mentality, but it’s definitely there.

The frustration comes from basketball fans, like myself, being exhausted from watching inconsistent teams for 20+ years. Having a coach who brought a level attention to detail that rivals a 50 year old coach and he was only in his 30’s. He won and he won CONSISTENTLY.
We saw the potential of a long term program with long term success. Yet he was consistently criticized by the basketball recruiting virtue signals and then last year by the Woodward acolytes (yes it was done intentionally because the same talking pints you read on here were repeated by BOS members and others within the school administration).
The team Wade had coming in next year would have been his best on campus. Instead we blew it up, while other schools in similar situations gave the NCAA the middle finger and hung banners last year.
I hope MM does great, but we gave up the most consistently successful coach since Brown in the 70-80’s for a really good mid major coach. And don’t be fooled, we did it on the cheap. Didn’t pay Wade a dime in buyout money and are paying MM near the bottom of the league in salary. It feels like had this administration been behind Wade, last year would have looked different and this year certainly would have looked different.
I’m not judging MM against Wade’s team last year or even what it could have been this year, that’s not fair. I’m also not judging it against Wade’s first year because MM did not inherit a dumpster fire and under the transfer portal days rebuilding is not what it used to be.
FYI many on here claimed MM’s roster was as good as last year. That was wrong. Last year LSU ran the table pre-conference and had a single digit NET ranking. This year we are 8-1 and are in the 70-80’s.
I hope MM succeeds, but if he doesn’t match his predecessor, it is a failure.
I’m pulling for LSU, but if the admin isn’t going to invest into the program, it’s tough to spend my money on it.

I think woody gutted it to give Brian Kelly as clean of a slate in football as he could.
Woody knows football is our cash cow and I think that's why he did it.
It sucks, I find myself listless watching this team, but I still support it.
It feels like we got relegated back to what we were post Johnny Jones, but so be it.

Facts.
Arguably the best coach ever to coach Lsu program & without a doubt the best coach to rise to the heights he did almost instantly from stepping on campus. He rose to quickly despite constant back stabbing and lack of support by his own athletic department and was loved by every player he coached.
I miss the bad boy mentality, he may not have been the best coach but his coaching produced great results and also the last year the he grew a little imo and changed the team philosophy on getting a win based on his players he had
Rising star someone is going to higher him and he will do the same thing he did at lsu

And that is what really pisses me off. We are not a basketball school but we have a damn good program historically. We are one of only 4 schools in the conference with multiple final 4 appearances, the second most conference titles behind Kentucky, and have produced 3 of the best NBA players ever. The only thing that holds us back from being recognized nationally is that we’ve never won it all, and I don’t think that we will for awhile now unfortunately.

I agree that they’re both good coaches. I would have loved the McMahon hire under different circumstances.
I think people are still rightfully pissed at Woodward/Tate for how Wade was jettisoned right then the NOA hit with no thought given to the tourney.
Any competent and confident administration would have issued a single statement that the NOA had been received and would be addressed immediately following the conclusion of the team’s postseason. Until then there would be no further comment.

What’s strange is Basketball is the only other college sport that turns a profit so why do we consistently ignore it financially? Just goes to show as much as we all love Woody for hiring Kelly and JJ there’s still something really amiss in Baton Rouge.

God help us all when he returns from NCAA Elba

Yeah I could see where 4 paragraphs is tough for you. Glad you felt the need to chime in. Congrats.

Freaking all of this dude. And in all honesty I think it's safe to assume the NCAA is going to give us a nice post season ban right when the conference tournament hits.
Matt is a good coach but this admin has destroyed all the momentum and support that Wade had built and has burned a lot of fans in the process myself included.
