Anyone been to the Citrus Bowl at Camping World? How was your experience? Did they not sell beer like at the SEC Championship Game?

I went for the 2005 capital one bowl. You can get the gist of the neighborhood from the following statement:
I paid $20 to park on a guy’s lawn

I don't plan on driving. Plan on staying close enough nearby to Uber.

There’s been one or two changes since 2005 baw. For one thing, most of the stadium got blown up and rebuilt, aside from the upper decks. Also, for those still reeling from the pathetic swamp, errrrrrrr field from that Penn State disaster years back…the field is now turf.

It’s a dump. Neighborhood is awful. But some big fields for great tailgating. Park in one of those and not a local business/house. Gets dicey. Perfectly fine if you do it right

They sell beer
It is not a great stadium
We had fun when we played Louisville
We combined it with a universal vacation, our mistake was going to the parks before the game. I told my wife, if we do this again, we will go to the parks are the game.

Yeah not planning on doing any Disney parks or anything. May check out a brewery or two and get some food. Thanks for the info.

I was there for the last second loss to Iowa 18 years ago. That was enough.

The previous Citrus Bowls the issue has been weather.
Penn State: Rained all first half, second half very very cold field in horrible shape
Louisville: Unseasonably hot
Notre Dame: Cold and wet

The Citrus Bowl recently had an upgrade. Rebuilt from ground up. Turf field and much better amenities. No the stadium is not located in Islworth, but it's totally safe. Lived here since 87 and never had an issue. Concerts, Soccer, Football, whatever. Orlando Police Department headquarters relocated to 2-3 blocks of stadium.
Church Street is modernizing and adding restaurants and retail. Two breweries (Broken Cauldron/Strings and Big Storm) within walking distance.

Will have to check out both of those. Any recommendations on food?

We were there Memorial Day weekend for Paul McCartney. Amazing show !!!. We ate at a restaurant on church st. They had a parking lot right off Church. We took an Uber to the stadium- about a ten minute ride and then walked back to our car after concert - about a 15 minute walk. Safe at night. Parked for free. Security was a little slow but not bad. Plenty of concessions open with no lines. We got there maybe 20 minutes b4 the show started. There was even a MLS Soccer game that same night just a few blocks from Camping World but game was over well before concert finished. We had a great time and had no issues at all.

Total POS stadium and area

Stadium is vastly improved since last time LSU played there.

I get the stadium seems to be in a bad area but care to elaborate?

Last time I was there was when we played Joe Paterno's Penn St. team. The stadium was a dump and the natural grass field was a quagmire. It was raining before the game and there was ankle deep flood waters on the concourses. I understand they have remodeled the stadium and installed turf since then.
The first time I was there was for Charley Mac's last game in 1979.
I am not going this year but I always have fun on that trip.

according to CBS we are playing in Yankee Stadium
quote:
Another one of the bowl confidence predictions the model is high on: No. 17 LSU easily beats Purdue in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 2 at Yankee Stadium in Orlando. The Tigers were one of the biggest surprises in the country this season, shocking the SEC with a trip to the conference title game. They came up short against No. 1 Georgia in that contest, but they still had an outstanding nine-win regular season.

An industrial angle. People pushing shopping carts. General diceyness. But stadium has big lots and everything is fine there. We were there for syracuse/West Virginia a couple years ago. Just watch where you park and tailgate. If you’re planning to do it at a local business opening their lot, it’s gonna get interesting.
