Admins - If this belongs on the Recruiting board, feel free to move. Just thought it might fit better here. It discusses recruiting but also the new staff.
Lot of good info in the article but I cherry picked some quotes below - sorry if it's all over the place.
Brian Kelly's hybrid recruiting strategy, key staff hires paying off early on

Brian Kelly's hybrid recruiting strategy, key staff hires paying off early on
Re: Recent success in recruiting
quote:
Through a very abbreviated 2022 cycle and nearly two-thirds of the way through 2023, the vision Kelly had on the recruiting trail — the one Woodward admired in the hiring process — has come to fruition. The Tigers rank No. 6 nationally in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, have seven top-150 prospects currently committed, and are the overwhelming favorite to land On3 five-star offensive tackle Zalance Heard when he commits on Sept. 1.
Re: Huge turnover in staff and personnel
quote:
His hiring wasn’t just a fresh start for himself; it was a chance for LSU to turn a page in the football program. Longtime staffers, who had stayed on through multiple coaching regimes, weren’t asked to return. Kelly brought in an almost entirely new coaching staff and recruiting department that was matched to his priorities and strategies.
Re: Frank Wilson
quote:
“Frank is a guy with as many connections across Louisiana as anyone,” Spiegelman added. “Guys like Tyrann Mathieu and Leonard Fournette probably don’t end up at LSU without him.”
When compared to Orgeron:
quote:
Kelly on the other hand, operates much like a CEO. He prefers to delegate to the people he’s hired with the belief they’ll execute. His goal, according to Spiegelman, is to focus largely on the current roster and to serve as the “closer” with recruits.
quote:
Added Embody: “He’s more of a businessman, a politician of sorts. He values a long-term plan that’s detailed more than anything. They’ll graduate players while going after the goal of a national championship. He drives a Tesla around and rides his Peloton a good bit. He gives off vibes of having had success in his life, and I think players gravitate toward that.”

Nice article.... Can't wait for national dickheads to stop bringing up the "Family" accent thing though

The article itself beat em to it
quote:
Kelly wasn’t a natural fit in Baton Rouge, having grown up in the Northeast and coached throughout the Midwest for nearly his entire career. And after a few early faux pas put him on the receiving end of numerous jokes, namely his failed attempt at an accent during an introduction at an LSU basketball game, speculation crept in about whether he could acclimate, and ultimately recruit, in the deep south.

It's ridiculous that they're still bringing that shite up. Something so miniscule that has absolutely nothing to do with football. They're just salty that someone could leave the almighty, national darling of college football for little ole LSU

what about the dancing? like this jackass

It's only non LSU fans that care about cultural fit. 99% of LSU fans could give a rats arse where he is from as long as he wins.

Yep. The only culture LSU fans really care about is a winning culture.

Part of me feels it's due to the last two head coaches being viewed almost as cartoon characters. You had the grass eating Mad Hatter in Les Miles & the shirt ripping, heavy Cajun accented Ed Orgeron. That's what the media tries to associate LSU football with so they immediately pounced on Kelly to try to fit him into that same category.

Dude, so true. I had this debate with an Auburn fan when Kelly got hired, friend Of mine who grew up in Alabama and graduated from Auburn. She gave the same bogus line of “I just don’t think he’s a good fit there.” Maybe threw in something about the culture.
I don’t let that ignorance off the hook. I said “what do you mean about not a good fit? Be very specific and explain what that means. I grew up down there and I have no idea what the fit means.” Of course she wasn’t able to explain herself, and shifted to saying she thinks he’s overrated. Which honestly I have no issue with someone saying he’s overrated. I don’t agree with it, but at least that’s a clearly defined opinion and not some nebulous argument about culture and fitting in.

Because the majority of sports fans nowadays just regurgitate the same nonsense they hear on idiotic television shows like First Take or shock radio shows pretending to sports radio shows. People put way too much faith in on air personalities who have no background in sports whatsoever while a show producer comes up with dumb talking points to draw in viewers/listeners.

They won't unless something else comes along to embarrass LSU.
They live for that shite

You should push back when people talk about Kelly fitting in at LSU. For a couple of decades, LSU had been associated with goofy, yet affable (until they weren't), characters that, in the order of the minds of people across the country, reflected the people of the state they represented; likeable, passionate, but rough around the edges and not prone to any character traits to be taken seriously.. the type that is fun to root for to get victories every now and then because, in the long run, you know they're going to fall off the wagon again and won't amount to any sort of threatening success.
That's really the crux to why Brian Kelly at LSU is so uncomfortable to people. No problem, will just have to reorder people's expectations. In my experience, Louisiana people are pretty extraordinarily successful when put in good environments. BK is bringing that type of environment to LSU for a change.

It seems like cultural fit only came up when lsu stole the golden domers golden boy. Did urban fit in Florida? Did nick fit here? Bama? This is just the current version of the media being limp wrist crybabies because their chic was taken from right under their snobby noses, and comments like this is their way of looking at us down those snobby noses.

Facts. Saban and Miles are prime examples of this. Just win baby

That's an interesting take. Hadn't thought about it like that but it makes sense. Also think that all the bad publicity involving LSU from the year or so leading up to the BK hire painted us in a pretty bad light and could have had something to do with it as well. The media would've pounced regardless of who we hired.

If goofy grass eating les miles can acclamate them BK won’t have any problem

Winning games will take care of that. I remember when all of college football hated Saban for lying about not leaving Miami for Bama. Now everyone has forgotten about that and they just hate him because he wins.

They're a bunch of scavengers. Who cares that it happened 9 months ago, it gives them an opportunity to talk shite about the coach that left beloved Notre Dame. Screw em. I really hope we get to play them in the playoffs or a bowl game within the next few years and leave no doubt as to why he left.
