I think it was a garbage call

I agree but taunting was a new rule of empahsis that season... Supposedly the regular players were trained or briefed on that but nobody thought to include the special teams guys... Taunted by a punter! LOL

A taunting call against on your punter against a rival. Totally worth it.
Last I knew it was the only time a TD was called back for taunting.

Honestly it’s such a moral dick punch To the opponent that the punter got a taunting call against you. I love the penalty

Kinda sucked because punters have so few chances to do something like that.
We beat the shite out of them anyway that game so it didn't really matter ultimately.

Jarvis killed someone during that game on kickoff coverage
Worse than the Auburn manslaughter

It didn't cost us the game so no chance to rub Florida's nose in it should ever be wasted.

Fukien Idiot. Turned out to be correct on all counts

They actually interviewed the refs afterward. They admitted that it was a point of emphasis for them BUT the only reason they enforced it was bc that score put LSU up by 20+ points and they thought it would be a good time to enforce it bc it wouldn’t affect the outcome of the game.

Remember watching it live, I was going nuts. Taunting was heavily called that season, but it was bullshite. One of my favorite plays under Les.
I specifically remember a couple weeks after watching a team maybe Oregon? And they did something similar or worse, and it wasn’t called. The announcers called out and said this was called against LSU a few weeks ago, and were fairly pissed about it.

Immediate response was "oh frick off" but I was still jacked to the tits after that play. Still awesome and no big deal, but the call was weak, even by the standards of the dumbass rule at the time. Barely a blip of an arm raise in real time.

If you could, would you go back in time to remove the penalty so that the TD counted, or keep it the way it is?
I think keep it the way it is

It was barely a taunt.

It's at least the second experimental/new rule called on LSU that was never called on anyone else ever again.
The other was that 2004 Auburn game where a bullshite penalty was called giving them a second extra point shot, and they won 10-9.

In todays pussified version of football, Jarvis and Chad Jones would be in jail.

Totally, rinky dink! If the NCAA wants to control taunting fine, but don’t make a call that could change the outcome of a game! That’s total B.S. I loved it!
