Why not just boot Vandy

....... and return to 12 teams? They will never really be relevant in the scheme of things. Ever. Oh, they may get the occasional win here or there, against Ole Miss, USCe or Moo State in a down year. But a potential SECE division championship is so far from reality that to consider it as a possibility is akin to plunking down a couple of grand a month on the Powerball. Sure... it could happen, but you're more likely to get hit by lightning. Twice.
I'm just spouting. I know that the SEC won't kick out Vandy, so why not just make THEM the 13th team that plays the weird schedule of 4 games in the East and 4 games in the West? TAMU is a gamer division opponent and should play a full division schedule.

They do contribute in other sports. More so than a lot of SEC schools.

I'm pretty sure you can't just boot a founding member. That would be like the NFL getting rid of the Chicago Bears.

Booting teams is a slippery slope. In theory a case *might* be made that Vandy isn't much in football, so kick them out or trade them to another conference for future draft choices (haha!). But down the road, what about other schools - I mean, who gets to decide who's in and who's kicked out. And why? Back in the not so distant past, during LSU's bad old days, we weren't contributing much to the furtherance of SEC football dominance either. What if some bright light decided back then that we didn't belong anymore...?

Why should we? What have they done to deserve that? THey are our partner in this, have we NO LOYALTY? Are we what UT? Is this the Big XII?

Umm...they make our academics look good. Keep Vanderbilt.

Why do people want to boot Vandy out? Ole Miss is worse in every aspect so if anyone would be cut loose it should be them.

Quit kicking Vandy. They are superior academically to every school in the SEC by a HUGE margin. Their baseball program has seen a meteoric rise in the 6-7 years. Their basketball program has been one of the top 3-4 in the SEC the last 10 years. As far as football and pretty much everything else, they are better than Ole Miss. Plus, Nashville makes for a helluva road trip.

Vandy is a founding member and has been in the SEC for close to a century. /thread

Vanderbilt is usually ranked as one of the top universities in the world. They have an endowment of around 3 billion dollars and the next closest in the SEC (Florida) is about 1 billion.
They might not be a good football team but they contribute in other areas and that's plenty.

Vandy is an asset. Academics and basketball. Only one school desereves the boot. The only school to never win the west. Ole miss. They are second rate, at best

Because you're a fricking idiot.

I say we could go ahead and kick them out. Bama can't beat them in basketball, esp. In Nashville.

1. Vandy is a founding member of the SEC and we have honor and recognize history.
2. Vandy is a fantastic university, the best in the SEC by a fair margin.
3. Vandy sucks in football, but they sometimes do okay in other sports.
4. Nashville is a cool town.

The SEC needs Vandy for another reason: Vandy is a private school.
What this means is, as long as the SEC has a private school as part of its orgainization, it is not a public entity, and is not subject to a LOT of extra disclosures and public reports of its finances and various goings-on.
Basically: Having a private school lets the SEC not tell the government what its doing all the damn time.

At least Ole Miss tries to win. Vanderbilt has never tried to raise their football program to the level of Stanford or Northwestern, and at least Duke contributes basketaball. Whatever difference there exists between the athletic programs of Vanderbilt and Tulane and Rice, if there is any, can probably all be attributed to the extra advantages Vanderbilt gets by being in the SEC such as TV revenues and recruiting advantages.
