Austin is faux west coast. It's far from being Berkeley.

Now it's time for Baylor to step in and push their way into the Pac 16.

Hearing the Pac-12 wouldn't have the nine member votes to let Texas in right now. Not sure who else besides Colorado is against it.

God I hope that is true. I'd much rather have Texas in the Big 10, ACC, indy or in a joke Big12 than in the Pac. Plus, if Texas doesn't go West, we get to see Tech permanently marginalized relative to football, which would be hilarious.

I lived in Austin for 7 years and will be moving back in the next couple of months. Besides a relatively small contingent of those people, who can typically only be found downtown, the suburban counties that surround Travis are BLOOD RED and are much more associated with the South.

The suburban counties are Aggie fans.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out, but there's definitely a reason that independence is last on Texas' preference list, and that reason is $$$.

Independence for Texas IMO would give UT the least amount of annual TV dollars of all options that Texas is eyeing.

Texas wants (in order):

1. Big12 with OU
2. Big12 with Notre Dame
3. Pac12 with OU
4. big10
5. ACC
6. Independence

You couldn't be more wrong. Independence is the most profitable of all alternatives for Texas BUT the AD has made a stand against it because he is concerned about the welfare of our other sports.

If horns won't drop lhn, then Kansas and Missouri might be found attractive to couple with the OK schools to make Pac16.

Why? I think both KU and MU are AAU schools, making them academically attractive to Pac, which cares about such things (they might even help OU in its quest to gain that status). They're also the flagship schools for their states, and would be good "traveling partners," which Pac wants....

My impression is that Kansas and Kansas State are somewhat attached - I guess maybe that changes if the Big 12 actually dissolves but it won't happen easily... (edit) and in reading a couple more posts on this board it seems the rumor mill believes Kansas is free to ditch KSU if it is in their own best interests (a surprising change considering the verbiage of solidarity from last offseason when MU and Nebraska were rumored for the Big 1G and only Nebraska was invited

Missouri to the PAC is something I really hadn't thought about - but it is not ridiculous. They are in a red state but the campus and student body are more liberal. It is a good academic school (if not elite) and they are the only major school is a reasonable sized state.

I still think Missouri makes too much sense for the Big 1G for them to ultimately end up anywhere else (regional rivalries esp would fit there) but the PAC is probably the second best option if the Big 12 is really going belly up.

Yeah, that's why Texas is just itching for independence.

FWIW, the Ticket in Dallas is reporting this afternoon that Texas and PAC are very close.. Vote by BOR today.

This sounds like a done deal and just ironing out the LHN details.

I won't believe anything coming out of Texas unless it is from the Texas AD...

Austin, TX is completely different from the rest of Texas. Lots of hipsters, goth kids, liberals, and homosexuals. I think they would fit right in with the West Coast

this is the image of Austin cultivated by this vocal minority of austinites. The reality is its much more like the rest of Texas than it is anything west coast.

Between the State Capital and the University, Austin feels more similar to BRLA than anywhere I've been in Cali. The "Keep Austin Weird" stuff is window dressing if you ask me.

Which is why I don't want Texas in the Pac 12 if Texans think goth kids and homosexuals = West Coast.

Same with Oregon - the perception is so hysterically opposite based on a few young kids who are a visible minority in Portland. "Oregon is so liberal and tree hugging." What a joke!

The real reason Texas adds nothing to the Pac 12 - we already have our pick-up trucks and Klan rednecks with the state of Oregon. We don't need anymore hicks - Oregon is an entire state of conservative gun toting hunting hicks.

Can't find anything on Pac 12 and Mizzou, found this lil bit interesting.

Although it is rumored that Missouri is 'confident' it will end up in the SEC
