Word is that the Big Twelve is targeting the University of Pittsburgh to bolster it's conference with the departures of Nebraska, A&M, and Colorado. Pitt would bring a strong tradition of both basketball and football to the Big Twelve along with a big market in the Northeast.

As a Pitt fan, I hope this doesn't happen.

Pitt to Big Twelve?

It would benefit their football in the long term I think...if the Big 12 exists long term. But damn would it screw up their basketball identity.

Paterno will do his damnest to make sure Pitt doesn't receive an invite from the Big Ten.

Pitt would get more money from the Big 12, but besides that I think there's little to gain. Tougher football conference, and there is zero chance kids from Texas are going to Pitt just because of their conference affiliation. Would immediately be the 2nd best basketball program though and challenge KU every year.

Pitt would be fricking stupid and I don't think they are. If the SEC picks up an ACC, they would be a prime candidate there. If this turns out to be a big shakeup, the B1G or ACC would be possible.

WRT the B1G, do you have a feeling on how Joe Pa would react?

I don't think it will matter.

If four 16-team super conferences are created, Notre Dame and Pitt would both probably join the Big Ten.

You have nothing to worry about man.Texas, Deloss Dodds, and Beebe are living in their own made up world. An alternate reality. They have truly lost it. I think they are trying to convince themselves that they could get any team that they wanted, and that the Big 12 is a premier football conference. Bwaahahahha.

Pitt- Nope
BYU - Nope
ND- Nope

Whats left???

Coomeee ooon down SMU, UH, Rice, etc...

Pitt playing in the Big 12 makes as much sense as TCU playing in the Big East.....I heard there is a great rugby team in New Zealand that wants to play American football......they might be a good fit for the "little 9".

You mean getting a high pre-season ranking and making only one regional final in 11 years, while losing to such basketball powers as Kent State, Pacific, and Bradley? (I'm not counting last years upset by Butler, they are good)

Oh wait, they'll fit right in with another underachieving basketball program -- the Longhorns under Rick Barnes.

They were relevant enough on 12/1/07:

Pitt. 13
WVU 9
