Alright that's fine. I think it's funny that if I just put the team I was a fan of growing up for all of those years, Bama, then my opinion may be respected.

However since aTm is the new kids on the block obviously any opinion from a fan of them is unwarranted and dumb because they surely don't know anything about the conference.

You realize this isn't going to change with Mizzou in the West, right?

Who says they're going to the West?

No matter which division they go in, the rotation is still going to take as long. 14 teams with one protected game = 14 teams with one protected game.

Not if you do away with the constant.

Well when you change allegiance that easily who can blame us?

If Auburn moves to the east with no crossover game = Iron Bowl killed, LSU/UF killed, UT/Bama killed

If Mizzou moves to the east with no crossover game = AU/UGA killed, Bama/UT killed, LSU/UF killed

And you honestly think that's a good idea?

Maybe you don't appreciate SEC history, or maybe you don't know jack shite about tradition, or maybe you're just one of those sour LSU fans that are upset they have to play UF every year.

I'm not sure which category you fall in, but I think it's a terrible idea. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I hope when Slive sets the schedule he shows more appreciation for what made this league great than you have here.

No I live within the world where the conference is bigger than the individual team. You still think Alabama is bigger than the whole, but it's simply not true. With that said, I really like playing UF every year. It's a good game with two good teams. However, if we're good enough we'll just play each other in the conference title game. If expansion is going to be a reality, the inequities of the current structure needs to change, period.

The league isn't great because of Tenn and Alabama's game every year. It's great because we have the most passionate fanbases in the country. You may hate Tenn "more" than you hate LSU, and I don't really care about that, but you want to beat each team equally, and that's all that really matters. Not the fact that you've been playing a team longer than another.

Missouri bring nothing to the SEC. Let them stay where they are.

That is the biggest lopsided division break down I've seen yet. I'm sure every state fan would love that. You may actually win 2 division games a year.

Add Auburn to the East, bring back the UF-AU rivalry annually. Just move UT to the West. That way everything is conserved, and the Florida Auburn game comes back every year. Should have been set up this way to begin with. UF and UGA barely played UT before the 90's.

I could live with that, but another team would still need to go East. Maybe Missouri.

Yeah, I am fine with Missouri having to go East. It would just be nice to play Auburn again every year, that was a great rivalry for many years, the record was 38-40-2 (for UF) before it was stopped annually. And if LSU really wants out of the UF game, we could make UT our permanent opponent.

Article about Constants

Good read.

quote:

But this permanent opponent thing also sets up a great scheduling inequity. To wit: while LSU has to go hammer and tong with Florida every fall, Mississippi State plays Kentucky.

Traditionally, this makes for a much easier road to the SEC Championship game for a school like MSU, except of course for those minor speed bumps known as LSU, Bama, Auburn and Arkansas.

What would be more fair, more equitable, more just, is to do it this way: Assuming one day relatively soon there will be two seven-team SEC divisions without realignment, you play all six teams in your division and play two teams from the other division on a home-and-home basis, one team rotating off and a new one rotating on each year.

I pretty much disagree entirely. MSU deserves to get a relative cupcake from the other division because in a relative sense they are the cupcake in the SEC West

Similarly all other things being equal - LSU has an easier schedule than MSU because instead of playing LSU they get to play MSU. So yes, you should have the better programs matched up against each other as fixed opponents.

Really the SEC couldn't have done much of a better job than they did at this:

Bama/UT
LSU/Florida
Auburn/UGA
Arky/USC

Make for really even compelling series that equalize the schedule difficulties across the SEC much better than any other readily available solution.

really??

LSU is in the only matchup that's of relatively equal teams.

Bama >>> UT
LSU==Florida
Auburn > UGA
Arky > USCe

What?

What time span are you using for this comparison?

Other than UT and Bama, noone else gives a rats arse about that game. If the rivalry means that much to you both, then schedule each other as non-conference games in years that you don't play each other in-conference. That way those rivalries can stay intact but yet dont affect the rest of the conference. You play 4 non-conference games...use one to schedule each other. Problem frickin solved.
