"Because A&M fans care as much about Mizzou as say LSU cares about ohhh I'll just say Rutgers. It would be a forced "Rivalry" and Blah.
LSU vs A&M would be very similar to Texas A&M vs Tex. Recruits, nationally recognized teams, co-worker trash talk, etc. etc"
We don't really care what you want. Just be glad you are in the SEC and not with big bro tex any more.

quote:A&M and Missouri as cross-divisional rivals would be fine, but that's not the kind of game you want to play Thanksgiving weekend. Do Arkansas and South Carolina play Thanksgiving weekend? No. If you're going to play that weekend, it needs to be a big enough draw to get folks to interrupt their holidays. A Missouri-A&M matchup wouldn't set the pulses racing for either fan base, having neither proximity or history to rely upon. It would be as contrived as Arkansas vs. LSU.
Why couldn't ATM and Mizzou be permanent cross-division and play on Thanksgiving weekend every year? Sorry if I missed where addressed this.

Who is we? The SEC does care what Loftin wants. They don't care what Mer Rouge thinks.
And explain how Texas is "big bro". More fitting is the dewshy younger brother who makes more money and is a dickhead about it

"It would be as contrived as Arkansas vs. LSU."
I hope you are joking.
2005 3 LSU† 19 Arkansas 17 Baton Rouge, LA
2006 8 LSU 31 5 Arkansas† 26 Little Rock, AR
2007 1 LSU† 48 Arkansas 50 Baton Rouge, LA
2008 LSU 30 Arkansas 31 Little Rock, AR
2009 15 LSU 33 Arkansas 30 Baton Rouge, LA
2010 5 LSU 23 12 Arkansas 31 Little Rock, AR
3-3
With about a field goal seperating the games.
vs
2011 Arkansas 42 Texas ATM 38
2010 LSU 41 Texas ATM 24
2010 Arkansas 24 Texas ATM 17
2009 Arkansas 47 Texas ATM 19
2009 Georgia 44 Texas ATM 20
2005 Tennessee 38 Texas ATM 7
0-6
That almost 3 TDS a game differnce.
Who wants to watch that Thankgiving weekend?
"contrived" they were not lying about you ags.

The reason behind it is the SEC doesn't want to have two teams play on Saturday and then potentially play again in the SECCG the following Saturday.
If you look at all of the big rivalry games played during the last week of the season, they are all either within division (Auburn/Bama, LSU-Arky, MSU/Ole Miss, Kentucky/Tenn) or outside of conference (UGA/GT, USCe/Clemson, UF/FSU).
Posted on 10/21/11 at 3:02 pm to PJinAtl
With 2 teams added, one to the E and one to the W that makes 7 teams a division. There has to be a cross divisional game every week unless an even number of teams plays OOC. That would mean the last week of the year A&M and Mizzou will both have to play OOC or have a cross divisional game.

Mer, please show the 5 SEC games A&M played before those 6.
They are just as relevant as a game in 2005. Different coaches and players than present. But I suppose you don't want to post 5 LSU beatdowns and it doesnt fit your argument.
But by all means, please judge A&M by our 2nd worst decade ever and LSU to it's best decade because that's clearly reality moving forward

All of you are making great points about why it wouldnt be the best matchup for that weekend, but nobody is refuting that it's logistically possible, which the OP didn't seem to think was the case.
The best point in this was the one someone made about inter-division games late in the season, which I hadn't realized were not allowed. That throws a wrench into the possibility of Alabama and Auburn being in separate divisions also.

Tigers, with 7 teams in divisions they might have to budge on that rule

Exactly. Unless LSU starts playing Tulane on Thanksgiving weekend, nobody has OOC rivalries that would work on thanksgiving (not that LSU vs Tulane would).
Ole Miss vs Miss St is locked in.
Auburn vs Alabama is locked in.
That leaves LSU, A&M, and Arkansas. Arkansas and A&M can do their Southwest Classic game that weekend and leave us out, or one of them gets left out with the no interdivision game rule. If A&M plays Texas this is solved, but otherwise it's quite a pickle. Too bad Tulane is dogshit.

What a joke! Let me guess, as soon is ATM gets up to SEC speed ya'll will want to drop them for Tech or Monroe on Thanksgiving. Boohoo Florida is to good we want USCe. What a bunch of losers our fans have become.
LSU has already dropped us once for kicking their asses so it wouldn't be a shock.

add arky/mo and i guess tejas is fricked as far as a turkey day match. maybe they could play baylor on espn3 or another tier 3 network (i know, the lhn thing)

This is exactly why I think this happens. The SEC would get to pick up the soon to be vacant primetime tv slot of the Texas-TexasA&M game, and matching up A&M and LSU dwarfs any possible annual match-up Texas could come up with. As you mentioned, Arky-Mizzou would also likely grab a good tv spot giving the SEC even more national spotlight. I will actually be surprised if this doesn't happen.

frick that! I grew up going to the Arkansas-LSU game the day after Thanksgiving every other year. It's my favorite game of the season and there have been some epic games the last decade and the manufactured rivalry is actually turning into a real rivalry.

Give Mizzou to TAMU.

We don't want Mizzou either
Let's not add them if nobody wants to play them

Why can't Aggie fans realize that the SEC does not schedule cross divisional games the last week of the year?
The SEC will not force Arkansas into an open week on that date.
The SEC will suggest A&M to schedule a rival OOC much like Florida, S.C. and Georgia does.
Aggies you are the new guys, the SEC will schedule ya'll in a way to minimize the impact of the other members
marque game.

Arkansas/LSU on T-day weekend has been a tradition for a while now. For the younger fans, its all they know. My family actually has a few traditions around that game at this point.
We need to keep what few traditions we have these days.
A&M should open the year with LSU. There's actually a traditional precedent for that.
In the meantime, find a Texas Tech or somebody to play on Thanksgiving until the Longhorns decide they miss you. I bet that will be sooner rather than later.

No way in hell we play a Tech, SMU or Baylor on Thanksgiving.
I'm sure the SEC wants to maximize revenue from A&M. Part of that is a game on Thursday Thanksgiving night. Best option for that is LSU.
I have no idea if that will happen but I hope it does. Arkansas is benefitting from the SEC adding A&M and Mizzou more than anybody and it's not even close. So make this one concession and we'll play you wherever you want. Dallas or H&H
