Missouri to the SEC possibly leads to A&M-LSU on Thanksgiving weekend?

I think Missouri coming in defintely opens up an intersting possibility for regarding LSU and Thanksgiving. If Arkansas is paired with Missouri as their cross divisional rival, they almost HAVE to play that weekend. Here's why:
Looking at the SEC schedule for Thanksgiving this year you've got 4 SEC matchups played on that weekend every year:
Ark vs LSU
Bama vs Auburn
Ole Miss vs MSU
Tennessee vs Kentucky
There are three annual OOC in-state rivalries played that week by SEC teams:
GA vs Ga Tech
USC vs Clemson
Florida vs FSU
That leaves Vandy with a hole to fill, and they are playing Wake Forest that Saturday.
A&M, Missouri, and Vandy need to play someone that weekend. Since A&M would be in the West and the other two in the East, that rules out A&M playing either Missouri or Vandy annually on that weekend. It also wouldn't work out for A&M to simply rotate between the two with a 14 team league since there is no guarantee that at least one of them will be on A&M's schedule every year. And, an annual Missouri-Vandy tilt on Thanksgiving wouldn't be attractive to either school. A Missouri-Vandy matchup would leave A&M having to fill a non-conference slot that weekend--and the prime suspect for that has already declined. In fact, Bill Byrne indicated yesterday that if A&M and Texas do play in the future, it likely will be in September, not on Thansgiving, so he obviously believes that A&M will have a conference game that weekend.
The problem that everyone faces on Thanksgiving is having an attractive enough game to get students and season ticket holders to give up part of their Thanksgiving weekend. That's why you see so many big rivalry games that weekend. That's also one justification Arkansas has used for playing in Little Rock when they host a game that weekend--students are at home and Fayetteville is a ghost town.
I just can't see the rationalization for having A&M, Missouri, and Vanderbilt left hanging, when the SEC can have only one school left with an open dance card that weekend (Vandy), as they do now. If Arkansas is going to claim Missouri as their cross-divisional rival, they almost HAVE to play Missouri so that both Missouri and A&M (LSU) have suitable opponents that weekend. Of course, the negative is that as a cross-divisional game it would set up a possible rematch in an SEC title game, but what are the odds of that happening.
Of course, if Missouri is NOT paired with Arkansas as a cross divisional rivalry, then that changes all of the above. A&M and Missouri could play that weekend if that is the pairing, so that Arkansas and LSU could stay that weekend.

In fairness this one used the most words. I didn't read it but I bet it has some new, really good points.
And the idea is badass enough for a few more threads on it

you don't think that LSU and A&M will try to reunite the opening game that we used to have? From 86-95 we opened up with Texas A&M all but 2 years.

slackhouse, I went to five of those games (1990-1994). It was brutally hot for those games because they were during the day. would be nice to have that game later in the year, when the weather was nicer.

Those were the five seasons that I was in college. We didn't lose a home game in any of them. Those were the days.
My man crush on Bucky Richardson is still as strong as ever!

Go to Mer Rouge,LA and you'll see why he's like that. I'd be pissy too if I had to live or grow up there.
77 posts since 2006, maybe his dail up internet service keeps going out or they don't get good cell phone signal in rurul Morehouse Parish.

I'd really like to see this as a home and home on Thanksgiving. The rivalry would become heated quickly, and recruits from LA and Texas would be watching that game with their families every year. Death Valley and Kyle would be rocking and when it's not at home, you eat barbecue or cajun food with your bourbon. Win/Win...

I hope A&M/LSU becomes a real rivalry. It is so easy to make fun of you, and the odds of you ever offering serious competition are slim for at least the next decade.

What a joke! Let me guess, as soon is ATM gets up to SEC speed ya'll will want to drop them for Tech or Monroe on Thanksgiving. Boohoo Florida is to good we want USCe. What a bunch of losers our fans have become.

Sadly, you are being serious. Get some perspective

frick that! I grew up going to the Arkansas-LSU game the day after Thanksgiving every other year. It's my favorite game of the season and there have been some epic games the last decade and the manufactured rivalry is actually turning into a real rivalry.
I'm not going to look it up, but I'm pretty sure Arkansas has played LSU about as many times as A&M has.

Why couldn't ATM and Mizzou be permanent cross-division and play on Thanksgiving weekend every year? Sorry if I missed where addressed this.

&MYou've played Arky 54 times, Aggie 50
ETA: records
34-20 against Arkansas
27-20-3 against A&M (but I can rationalize that to make A&M better )

Because A&M fans care as much about Mizzou as say LSU cares about ohhh I'll just say Rutgers. It would be a forced "Rivalry" and Blah.
LSU vs A&M would be very similar to Texas A&M vs Tex. Recruits, nationally recognized teams, co-worker trash talk, etc. etc.
