Big stadium. Rabid football fans. Located in the Southeast.
And their band plays "Tiger Rag" and call their stadium "Death Valley".
I went to the Peach Bowl in '97 and it was a little weird being at the bars with Clemson fans and realizing how much we have in common.
It was a lot more fun talking shite to Vols fans in 2001 at the SECCG. With Clemson Fans, I wasn't sure how to taunt them. Couldn't yet "Tiger Bait!" at them!

Clemson is more of an SEC school than some INSIDE the conference. This is where I'd rank the schools in SEC-likeness.
Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
LSU
Tennessee
Florida
Clemson
Ole Miss
Kentucky
Arkansas
South Carolina
Miss. State
Vanderbilt

Is Clemson the most SEC-like team outside the conference?
Only problem with Clemson is they need to change the name of their team from Tigers to something else and for that matter they would have to come up with a new name for their stadium, I don't, Loud Canyon, Killer Crater, anything but Death Valley.
Same with Mizzou.

It will be very strange for LSU to be in the same conference with Clemson. We've only played them twice (1959 Sugar Bowl and 1996 Peach Bowl). I was at the 1996 game and it was just weird.
Does any other band in the country play "Tiger Rag" besides Clemson and LSU? Does Mizzou? I know Tigers is the most popular mascot in college sports but I'm just curious...
ETA: Never mind.. Mizzou also plays Tiger Rag:

LSU doesn't play Tiger Rag anymore. At least, not at football games. It's been a while now.
And you're forgetting that Auburn plays it as well.

Clemson is the most SEC like and its not even close. FSU doesnt even sell out their stadium most of the time. VT is SEC like but not nearly as much as clemson.
If we were going to bring in any team from an existing state I would want it to be clemson. I would rather clemson then WVU even.

If Clemson is the most SEC like then I know the reason why. That school was founded by an Auburn grad.

The football team & athletic department were set up by one, but Thomas Clemson didn't go to Auburn.

No idea myself but i've heard several times SMU has a very SEC feel to it. Maybe not the football program but the school in general.
I would say SMU is closest to Ole Miss if you are comparing them to SEC schools.
Don't ask me why, its just the feeling I get being around both fan bases.
I could be completely wrong though as all of the Ole Miss people I know are originally from Texas.
I do however think SMU could work as an SEC school. They would have some work to do with their facilities but they seem to be willing these days.
Recruiting wise it would be great to play in Dallas every so often. Their fans have slowly been coming around now that they are actually trying to be competitive and the bandwagon gene is very strong in Dallas so it would be conceivable they could have to move bigger games out to the Cotton Bowl.
BTW, I am not saying SMU should be a top choice. Just that they would end up being a decent addition in the long run.

I think most Aggies would love VT as their East rival mainly b/c they are the only other FBS senior military college.

the Corp of Cadets there isn't like what it used to be and nothing like it is a A&M

I know.
that wouldn't change most Aggies minds though.
we played them in a home and home a few years ago and it seems that pretty much everyone loved them.
