If you're the Big XII, and you want to expand to 12...

Rank these schools in the order that you want them in your conference, and why you'd prefer each to the others (or vice versa):
SMU
Houston
Tulsa
Colorado St.
Louisville
New Mexico
New Mexico St.
LA Tech (lulz)
Wyoming
I didn't include BYU & TCU since they seem like the obvious first 2 choices.
Take into consideration the following (in no particular order or weighting of importance relative to one another):
Geographic Location
Academics
Strength of Athletic dept
TV Markets
SMU
Houston
Tulsa
Colorado St.
Louisville
New Mexico
New Mexico St.
LA Tech (lulz)
Wyoming

SMU is a no-brainer, and I guess Colorado State would be good to get back the Colorado market
Posted on 10/6/11 at 1:38 pm to Luke4LSU
louisville
memphis
la tech/tulane/ull (pick one obviously)
nobody else on the list really brings anything to the table

SMU is a no-brainer
small fanbase in a market that they already have locked down
I'm puzzled why they're inviting TCU though, so why not SMU

only team in the list I'd be interested in

If I were the big 12, I'd go after Rice and Tulane. Houston & New Orleans markets. Elite academics.

someone on another board said tulane, uab, and memphis... if you want to weaken the SEC in the long run, help build those programs up

Of this? Louisville easily #1. Then it gets dicey.
Two I would go after - U Central Fla and U South Florida.

(Geography, Academics, Athletics, TV)
SMU: 1+1+0+1=3
Houston: 1+0+0+1=2
Tulsa: 1+1+0+0=2
Colorado St.: 0+0+(-1, no baseball)+0=-1
Louisville (-1)+0+1+1=1
New Mexico 1+0+0+1=2
New Mexico St. 1+0+0+0=1
LA Tech (lulz) 1+0+0+0=1
Wyoming 0+0+(-1)+0=-1
So I guess it's New Mexico, SMU and Houston and Tulsa.

Why southern miss? It's a better option than a texas school but it still doesn't have much room for the big 12 to claw their way in.

and everyone knows TCU and SMU dont get along. TCU left CUSA when the invite was extended to SMU.

So I guess it's New Mexico, SMU and Houston and then just pick one (UTEP as a rival?)
being in texas is a negative for geography/tv, not a positive.

not that I've polled or anything, but I'm absolutely sure they're #4 at best in their region, even behind a certain out of state team to the west.

SMU a 0 for academics? Really?

Not if you're Bevo and their b!tch and you want your fans to be able to drive to the arse-whoopins/play in front of Texas recruits.

Good point, Fixed it. Didn't realize they and Tulsa are both Top 100 in US News rankings. Or that both CSU and Wyoming are ahead of Louisville!

Why not have Air Force for the Colorado market.
Teams I would look at if I were the Big 12 (in no particular order)
Air Force
UNLV
LA Tech
Nevada
Tulsa
Memphis
Southen Miss
BYU
New Mexico/State
Wyoming
Houston
SMU
