Do you think the SEC goes to 16 or stops at 14?

Didn't Slive mention that he has no interest in 16 teams? What are your thoughts.

I thought it was more along the lines of "The SEC will do what it must to stay at the forefront of College Sports" - Thats just a summary and I can't remember where I read that so

With that being said I can see the SEC being the first to Expand to 16(Better to get the teams you want first than fight for scraps)

Don't care. As long as we keep playing LSU every year, I don't care how many teams we pull in. I just don't want to go to the east.

I think at 14 we can keep some semblance of our current divisions match ups and go to 16 when they feel they have to.

I think 16 right now only happens if they need it to get the 13th and 14th school in, i.e. by keeping a state legislature out of the matter.

Hope it stops at 14, but unlikely. 16 teams limits the number of ooc games. Would miss a lot of good match ups. Having to play 10 conference games, would we schedule OR/WV or Wstn K ?

If the SEC went to 16 teams I would think they would split into 4 divisions and have a 4 team playoff for the championship.

This all hinges on the stability of the big12-3.

IF someone is able to dislodge Mizzou or kstate/kansas, everything changes. As soon as the big12 is gone, there will be a mad scramble to snag teams that work with the existing powerhouse conferences.

I expect the B1G to charge headlong after Mizzou and Kansas. They are prime AAU schools that fit the B1G's standards.

If any of them go, OU will bounce out as well, and tug their cousins with them(OSU).

It is a big game of musical chairs and no conferences wants to be the one standing without solid additions.

they would have 4 divisions and in the proposed division Arkansas was in with the Mississippi schools and A&M which would be fine with me.

I could see the divisions being:

A&M
LSU
Arkansas
(Missouri or another team added from the west)

Ole Miss
Miss State
Auburn
Alabama

Florida or Georgia depending on additional teams
South Carolina
(14th team added from east)
(Additional team added from east)

Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy
Florida or Georgia depending on additional teams

I also predict that. People keep saying Mizzou to SEC. If A&M leaves the Big 12 I'm sure the Big 10 knows what's coming.

Yeah, but I have no doubt that the SEC is also very interested in Mizzou. There is very little downside to getting them despite what most SEC fans believe.

RhodeIslandRed--I like your picks of VT and NC State. They would fit well in the SEC.

The only team I'm not sure about is Mizzou. They want in the B1G so bad, if they came to the SEC they would bring instability, always looking to leave if the B1G ever called.

I would go for Oklahoma State. They're in the same boat as A&M -- second-best program where the top program is a juggernaut (even worse for them, as OU has 7 National Championships, far more than Texas). They would do well to follow A&M's lead -- get away from big brother and make their own path.

They're not going to threaten any of the power teams (Alabama, LSU, Florida) but they won't be a Vandy either, and if they came over they would stay.

Yes, A&M and OSU are in analogous positions, but the state of OK ain't the state of TX. I can't imagine OSU getting an invite w/o OU. This said, over the long term, if the FBS splits into the haves and the have nots by creating another div within the NCAA or breaking off entirely, then I could see them being one of the homeless haves being picked up. In that scenario you would have 4 superconferences in the 18-20 team range.

Actually this is more likely than the other. OU may not be able to join another conference without bring OSU along.

Also, we've been having discussions about certain schools forming a coalition to block other schools (the big one being Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina working to block Florida State, Georgia Tech, and/or Clemson). I could see an A&M/Arkansas/LSU coalition (with maybe Alabama as the fourth and deciding vote) to block OU (Alabama gets swayed after considering that any playoff path to the championship would have to go through both OU and Florida). But I doubt that anyone would block an Oklahoma State entry (no real threat to the power teams, plus unlike Mizzou they would stick around).

I am all for Conference Expansion but I would rather stay at 14 rather than 16. Just my opionion that 16 would just be too much .

I kind of like this idea. Imagine a playoff game between Bama vs LSU in Tiger Stadium. That would be badass.

Okay with 14. Hate the idea of 16.

16 and it doesn't even feel like a conference anymore.
