Yeah, as noted academics are a concern, but new money generated from new markets can fund a lot of research. I reckon that might be in Larry Scott's bag of sales pitches.

If they let TX Tech join, they might as well let Boise in.

ESPN now saying it's done with an announcement on Monday. Mizzou, Clemson, and FSU as the other possibilities
I would have never thought the SEC would be the first to go to 16 teams. Its a great conference as it is. Im Definitely surprised they're going after Missou.

Parts of Missouri are southern. Columbia/St Louis/Kansas City are all run the mill midwestern areas and not really Southern at all

I wish they would have snagged OU or OSU but they are likely a package deal.

It's no worse than ASU

Pretty much. If your passion for academics is only lip service, do your conference a favor and go for the bigger fish right off the bat.
..and Baylor is in a BCS conference because they have a rich and powerful alumni presence that demands they go where Texas does. They are putrid in the Big 12 and will be in the Pac/whatever too. Let them go to CUSA or the like, where they belong.

the state has a lot of redneck and the southern parts do have a southern feel (esp SE Missouri) but the Columbia, STL, and KC areas are not really like that at all
Granted there are a lot of white children conceived in the backs of Trans-AMs but I don't think that really means you are a good fit for the SEC... they fit as much or more with West Virginia or rural Indiana as they do Georgia

ASU is a much better school, imo

I would think schools like UF, bama, auburn and UGA would have a problem with FSU joining the conference.

I didn't know Texas Tech was that bad

i wouldnt call it a joke. TT is still educating kids, and doing a good job of it for the most part. I am sure they have some great programs. They accept lower tier students, but those people are still getting an education and contributing to society.
I just thought ASU wasnt a good comparison, since ASU is rapidly improving and is even on the forefront of innovating the future of public universities.
anyway, back to expansion..
i guess the Big12 could go after BYU

Dr. Drunk, mighty fine of you to admit you were mistaken and start an eat crow thread.

Dr D, this quote you keep highlighting is just rhetoric from some blow hard politician. How is it against the interest of the State for A&M to go to the SEC? How is the state harmed by Baylor going to CUSA or the MWC? Its nonsense spewed by some self important official.
quote:
If there is a zero % chance that the legislature could cause any problems for A&M, why did they rush & move up their BOR meeting to Monday?
They are just calling the legislature's bluff. All the Leg could do is cut funding to A&M. There's not a zero % chance (of anything really) of that, Its just unlikely. I mean, really, you are going to cut funding for higher education to one of the premiere public universities in the state and country because some private school in Waco might have to play sports in a "lesser" conference? Good luck with that on the campaign trial . And even if they did cut A&M's funding over an athletic conference, its not like it would be permanent or irreversible. There will be another election. You think 5, 10 years from now people will care? Will they really reduce funding to A&M over a football conference? No, they will not.
