..but you forgot the important part:
ROUNDROBIN!

I bet Arkansas is really glad they chose to join the SEC in the 90s.

So the Big 12 is about to become the new Pac 10?

While it's stupid from a $$ standpoint, the round robin with no CCG is the best way to find a conference champ.

if you had an odd number of teams maybe - with an even number you end up playing an odd number of conference games (unequal number of home and away games)

Not really. You get co-champs and ties. The SEC has shown how to do it and there's been no question about our Champ deserving it since we've had the SEC CG.

PAC-10 has been doing it for years.

Would have been real interesting picking a conference champ a few years ago with Texas/Oklahoma/Texas Tech fiasco.

BINGO!
Right now A&M is the master negotiator. If they take the Big XII deal they will be looked upon as Longhorn yes-men forever. And rightfully so.

since 2006 i think - and it's been a loser for them. end up with more losses and fewer bowl participants - and no ccg payout

Sounds ridiculous to me, but will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

how so?
to me, they'd be seen as the dissenter that stopped Texas from going to the PAC-whuh and kept the Big XII together. A&M is, in the public eye, coming out as the more savvy of all the players no matter what they do at this point.

The new Big XII should add Tulane and Rice to get back to 12 teams. You know, to increase their academics.
After losing Nebraska and Colorado, isn't the Big XII / SWC v2.0 the weakest BCS conference academically?

Tulane needs a new stadium first.
