I just like FSU's longevity in football more than VT. Every school takes a tumble down at some point. It's like the inevitability of a recession no matter how wonderful the country is.

From the ACC...

I'd make the call to UNC, even if it is a pipe dream, then move on to Miami, VT or FSU...whoever the marketing people say will attract the most eyeballs nationally. That's what this is all about, anyways

I gotta believe the answer to that question is Miami.

Problem with Miami is that they have no internal revenue streams, are a small private school that can't sell out games, and would not bring their own financial viability to the table.

they really bring nothing to the table financially but a name

yeah like I said, Miami isn't bringing the Miami market. The Miami market is a joke.

The typical university budget it in the 1+ billion dollar range. Unless there are no reprecussions from your state provider it makes sense for VT to join the SEC and gain 10 mil/yr...but when the state provides that much money, they have some say...as long as they want to.

If they stay out of it, all is fine...but 50 mil in cuts for this move would be a penny in the bank and outweigh all else

I'm not saying Miami is "the obvious choice" or anything, but I have to believe they would be a slight favorite over FSU.

Somebody earlier posted D1 revenues and the two were basically equal, so that's a moot point....and it is my OPINION, based on the absurd amount of time I devote to following college football, that Miami is a bigger national name than FSU. IMO, slight edge to Miami

Plus the away game trips to the beach in October/November would be nice. You don't get much of that in Tallahassee. Huge edge to Miami

Btw, I'm fine with VT...if the research indicates they attract eyeballs. That's all this is about, anyways

But could the Virgina legislature really afford the PR hit if they essentially tried to blackmail VT to stay in the ACC?

I think that the media would run with a story that is basically predicated on a state legislature withholding academic funding over football.

They would be blasted for putting football's importance over education.

it was fine after forcing UVA to vote VT in the ACC for almost the same reasons

I think that is downright crap in both instances.

Have you got a link to a story that gives the background on that?

They really threatened to withhold funding from UVA if they didn't vote yes on VT?

They may see the money associated with football success but they are first and foremost a basketball school and are literally attached at the hip to Duke.

they are but the gov at the time mark warner who represented sw va at the time flexed his muscles as the gov. Getting sw va to vote dem isn't easy and getting vt in the acc helped him out big time

This made me laugh. So the governor flexed his muscle how exactly? By threatening UVA's budget over athletics? Sure that was beneficial to his political agenda. haha.

Look dude, I'm done discussing this but I really think you're a dumbass if you don't believe VT will be in the SEC if they are asked, which remains to be seen.

it is garbage by both thats why Big east schools were so bitter about VT leaving and UVA still doesn't like how VT got in the ACC. It was more the governor pushing his weight around

Tiger Authority, thats fine...another thought...maybe we dont want to be in the SEC, seem to be doing well here in the ACC. Conference champ game 3 of 4 yrs...why leave and face the "brutal" SEC. We'd drop to mediocre. Maybe not worth it. Something to think about.

If aTm is willing to break a 100 yr old rivalry to benefit themselves, UNC could definitely do the same if the payout was significant enough.

If A&M is in, VT will be my choice. Or Missouri.
