What legal mess could this be? You realize academics and sports are different right?

im very aware of that but there is no way the flagship university of the state is going to be just used by VT like that. I actually think VT and WVU should both join the SEC, but UVA can definitely stand in the way of any VT move out of the ACC, to think other wise is just silly esp since they got VT in the ACC.

I was talking to my friend today who is a UVA grad about this and he said no way VT just walks. Politics will definitely stand in the way, UVA grads and voters will pressure the politicians to stand in the way of VT leaving

And I'm simply saying that I don't care if they are the flagship university or not. LSU is the flagship and doesn't control every program in the state. If one of them found a financially viable alternative option, they would certainly do it. This isn't a UAB situation.

If VT were asked they would come. And no legal issues would be around and UVA would have little to no ability to stop them from leaving the ACC.

I'm cool with the SEC the way it is, but if it went to adding 4 more teams - Bring in Texas A&M, Mizzou, UNC and Duke..Done.

just watch, UVA will make it hell for VT. They are tied to the hip b/c of VT getting in the ACC.

Sounds like Texas A&M and Texas.

And I think that you are naive for believing that if the opportunity presented itself VTech's own self interest would win out and there is basically nothing, especially not legal, that UVA could do about it. They could have irritated legislators but it would net VT so much more revenue that UVA wouldn't have much to do, regardless of how they got into the ACC. Altruism doesn't exist.

it is and fact that UVA's hand was forced to get VT in the ACC will make it messy

The Texas/TAMU political thing is real. There endowments are tied to oil revenue. Not true in Virginia. The only thing Virginia has is the fact that they got VT into the conference, which really doesn't do much.

FSU is on probation, no way the SEC lets them after their academic scandal

it will be TAMU and VTU ad frankly that makes the most sense across the board

I think the academic scandal will be overlooked because the penalties didn't result in much. It's not like they're USC. I do think that FSU's proximity to Alabama combined with their rivalry with UF makes them a tougher sell to the conference.

Screw Florida. Bring in FSU. Bama and Ole Miss have to put up with their rivals in conference. LSU and UGA had their rivals in conference until they walked. FSU is the best fit and UF should not try to dictate to the entire conference.

well for the fact VT was part of the initial injunction with WVU and Pitt to stop the ACC raid of the Big East and it was working. Proves legal action can be taken. The reason it failed is b/c VT ended up doing back room dealing to get in the ACC

The conference votes them in. The SEC does the same thing as nine have to give the ok. It's not an injunction dude. There was no legal injunction. It was simply not having the votes to get them into the conference. Do you understand the distinction. This isn't a legal situation.

If A&M comes I say we add only one more team to the east. My order would be...

1. Miami
2. UNC
3. Va Tech

These 4 add new TV markets along with A&M

the legal issue with the big east was to stop teams from leaving and it basically worked with Syracuse and then VT took the opportunity to stab the schools it was working with in the back

I think anyone who's a college football fan in Florida watches the SEC. Bringing Miami won't change that dynamic.

Regarding this VT/UVA issue...being a faculty member at VT, I can tell you that state politics DO play a huge part in things like this.

Imagine...VT wants to leave ACC, this hurts ACC, VT/UVA rivalry, ect...all it takes is some talk from Richmond regarding funding $, we are all on budget cuts, they can make it worse with justification. These things do happen.
