the legal issue with the big east was to stop teams from leaving and it basically worked with Syracuse and then VT took the opportunity to stab the schools it was working with in the back

You still haven't explained one time how this was a legal issue. Explain it to me I'm a lowly law student and seek your understanding.

Regarding this VT/UVA issue...being a faculty member at VT, I can tell you that state politics DO play a huge part in things like this.

Imagine...VT wants to leave ACC, this hurts ACC, VT/UVA rivalry, ect...all it takes is some talk from Richmond regarding funding $, we are all on budget cuts, they can make it worse with justification. These things do happen.

thank you, i love when people who are not from Virgina try and tell me things work in the state

Yeah I love it when people are so naive to believe that the money windfall in the SEC would be outweighed by politicians being upset amidst the greatest recession of our lifetime.

And once again, explain to my the dynamics of the law problems. I really want to know.

I think the academic scandal will be overlooked because the penalties didn't result in much. It's not like they're USC. I

because they put themselves on 4 years self imposed penalties

but the academic scandal is all Florida needs to say to disqualify them

And I understand that UF will use that to be against them. But I don't see it as a problem that would override a possible invite. Just my guess though.

it stopped Syracuse from joining the ACC and ended up helping VT. UVA no matter how good VT football is(which is all they have) is still the top dog in the state

That's not an explanation. That just means that you heard someone say it and you don't know the details so you can't give an actual substantive answer. And yes they are the top dog, just not in regard to athletics, particularly football. So an SEC invite wouldn't be met with anything but a yes.

Realistically, the first choice would probably be Virginia Tech, then Florida State, then North Carolina, then Clemson.

agreed

but VTU is a better candidate than FSU without UF screaming academic scandal

the only other school that trumps VTU is UNC and that aint happening

I know the market is there that would help us, but FSU has more national appeal and I wonder what their numbers are for ACC games. I would imagine they gain more from television than most in that league on a national level. Pure conjecture on my part though but their success in the 90's has gained them some serious longevity on the national stage.

nahhhhh

VTU - respected athletics, great academics, excellent TV market

UNC - highly respected athletics, exemplary academics, excellent TV market

FSU - respected athletics, decent academics but on probation, zero TV market

Clemson - decent athletics, decent academics, zero TV market

plus UNC added to UK would make the SEC a basketball power second to only the Big East

didn't hear anything just take the time to look it up. Your kidding yourself if you think VT is top dog in this state. Ive lived here just about my whole life and UVA still runs the show. VT wasn't even relevant in anything until Vick and when Beamer leaves they have a good chance of following back to being mediocre

TAMU isn't top dog in their state either so what's your point here with that talk? They are more relevant football wise than UVA, and that isn't contested by anyone. They would be a possible invite, and if invited, no matter how little objectivity you have, they would jump at the chance.

I would guess they still have more. I would imagine, if I cared more to research it, that the FSU national television games draw more. Pure guess though.

Sorry, dont know how to reply directly do an above post but to the person that said something to the effect of a windfall from joining the SEC...what are we talking??? about 10mil/yr extra? Sounds good until you consider that the VT board will have to weigh that against maybe 50mil in budget cuts for the university...guys its not all about football.

That being said Id love to see VT in SEC

I just have a tough time really believing that. We'll see.
