WVU just took OU's DC.
Alley is bright young DC and I love it for WVU, but what the heck is going on in Norman? You just don't role into SEC country and grab a blue blood DC that they actually wanted to keep unless something is really gone wild.
Either RR really did get the big donors to step up, or OU is beginning their quest to be the new Nebraska.

I actually could see this becoming somewhat of a trend. The net benefit of elite assistants might not be as appealing to the big programs as they may be to programs that will need to do more with less given NIL resources
Paying high dollar for an assistant to get the most out of your dollar is a better resource allocation if you have less ability to buy the talent outright

I think the schools will still need to have really good actual coaches. Even with the money aspect a most kids aren’t going to want to play for someone that doesn’t know what they are doing because it could hurt their future/NFL aspirations.
I think it’s going to an absolutely get rid of those “coaches” that basically are great recruiters but aren’t ok coaches.

If they succeed Venables is going to get the lion's share of the credit for the defense anyway. But probably more importantly, West Virginia's staff getting fired in 11 months seems less likely.

He worked with Rich Rod at UL Monroe and was his DC at Jacksonville St

Maybe he wanted to get out from Venables shadow to show he can call a defense. He might have bigger ambitions.

Many OU fans were saying Mizzou sucks and OU owns Mizzou and will still do so in the SEC. This year didn't go the way OU fans wanted it to go. So maybe OU isn't any better than what Nebraska has done the last 10 years or so.

Being a DC in SEC is a lot harder than at WVU, expectations are a lil different as is week end and week out opponents

Nah. This is more about him working with rich rod before and getting to run his own defense again.

Yeah and they had a huge improvement from '23 to '24 with Roberts on the staff. Probably one of the reasons Armstrong was losing power. He's really young as well. I believe he was the youngest coordinator in college in 2023.
