What do you think about your son right now?
I ask this because I thought Monte was always just the opposite of the way his son acts. I'm suprised he is backing this play.

Well he went to TN and SC w/him, so can't think too bad about him.

Yeah, but did you ever get that from him?

I don't buy it. Lane can't help himself. He honestly can't. If Monte was this way, it would have risen to the top at some point.

I think that Monte feels bad for coaching all of his life and never being home to help raise his kids. Now Monte is trying to finally bond with his son and will just support him in whatever missteps he has made, just to build a father/son relationship that he probably never had.

I'm sure he talked to pops before making the move.
Hell Monte left the NFL to coach with the kid...

I agree that I always thought Monte and Lane were completely opposite but who knows. Maybe that's where Lane gets it?
He could also be pissed and disappointed at Lane for this move but he's still his father.
I think that was more like a favor though. I think he was on his way out of Tampa anyways with the coaching change there when Gruden left and I thought Tenn was perfect for him because he could still coach but slowly wind down and hand the reigns over to O. Thought he'd spend the rest of his days there...........guess not.
But I certainly don't think him leaving the NFL to coach at Tenn was indicative of his character necessarily.
Also, he's kinda strapped to Lane now whether he wants to go to USC or not. He can't hardly stay on staff and work with the new coach while Lane goes out West.

Monte Kiffin was an idiot when he was HC of NC State
quote:
Of course, you've coached in college before, back when General Neyland was a sergeant. People forget that because you've been in the NFL so long. At N.C. State, though, they still remember the day you dressed up as the Lone Ranger and rode that white horse into the stadium. There was the time you jumped out of the helicopter (about 8 feet) and the time you volunteered to fight Joe Frazier (you touched gloves and left).
quote:
Start with the story everyone tells, of Monte's wild ride. Back when he was the head coach at N.C. State in the early '80s, Kiffin was trying to stir a little interest in the program. So, during a spring pep rally, he dressed up as the Lone Ranger, had them play William Tell Overture and came charging down the hill atop a white horse. Hi-yo. And furthermore, Silver.
There was the time he vowed to jump out of an airplane. Only it turned out to be a helicopter, and it was hovering about 8 feet above ground.
There was the time an entourage followed him into the ring and, waiting for him there, was Joe Frazier.
There was the time, when he was with the Vikings, he and defensive tackle Keith Millard staged a fistfight on top of a nearby building. It ended when Millard tossed a mannequin, dressed like Kiffin, off the building.
Marinelli has heard them all. The one he likes to tell involves the annual scouting trip to Mobile, Ala.
"Monte's a gizzard man," Marinelli said, shaking his head in disgust. "Gizzards. Every year, he stocks up on them. I mean, he brings them home in his carry-on luggage."
Chicken gizzards?
Marinelli looks at you strangely as if to wonder why you cared what creature they originated inside.
"They're gizzards," he said.

Same thing I've always thought. The sun rises and sets in his bunghole.

Maybe Lane is doing things his dad never had the balls to do.
Posted on 1/13/10 at 10:51 am to Linkovich
well, he's staying with him and moving to socal. evidently, he thinks his son is where he should be at this stage in his life. sort of a pre-inheritance assistance.

Monte is just worried who is going to change his next diaper.
