Firstly, the NFL season coaching carousel hasn't started. Bill Obrien and Chip Kelly may be available.

Secondly, for the Jimbo lovers, if we're paying 6 million, that's way more egregious of a mistake for Alleva. Chip Kelly, Jack Del Rio and many other coaches make less than 6 million in the NFL. Of the top three coaches in college (Saban, Harbaugh and Meyer), 2 have serious NFL histories with the most successful one being an NFL failure. Petrino also has a failed NFL background.

Jimbo has near equivalent resources and an equivalent talent base in a weaker conference where he's arguably had success at about the rate Miles had. I think Orgeron is the better pick in some ways than Fisher.

Let it play out.

You're overreacting. You're already talking about hiring this year's NFL failures. Perhaps you should let it play out.

Which would be better than Fisher

I can't believe the short attention span of everyone of Fisher. I vividly remember the 9-6 Auburn game and many other games where our offense was putrid under Fisher.

Agreed. I just view it differently. I don't choose to ignore his accomplishments.

Yeah, I know, right? If people could just think back like 3yrs, maybe people would remember what Jimbo was really made of. Such short attention spans, some people.

Jimbo has accomplished more in CFB than both of them combined

wtf does NFL experience have to do with anything here. oh, right nothing. none of those guys are even interested in coaching CFB

he's been to 2 national championships in 13,14. he also never lost the championship scoring 0 points so he's got that going for him
Jimbo will have a better defenses here. When he had good defense at FSU he won the championship.

Not at all.
Oregon can recruit, that's about it. It will be hard for him to recruit QBs when he's cycling through OC's b/c they either don't work out and leave or have great success and leave. theres no stability.

I'm a Herman guy, but I completely understand going after Jimbo.

LSU is making a statement that they demand a coach who will bring in and develop QBs. Fischer has the best track record in doing that in all of CFB

Saban was an NFL failure too. While i dont agree with OP about the overreacting part, i would be grateful to get either of those guys over O. Unfortunately,i really do believe we have passed the point of no return (meaning it's down to O, Jimbo, and Fedora). Still a bit baffled how Fedora just popped up in the mix like this out of all the other coaches. I think it's more likely we would end up with Herman or one of the 3 mentioned above than the 2 nfl coaches mentioned. If alleva is pushing to get this done in two weeks i would take any other candidates besides the four i mentioned out of the picture...for better or worse.

Oh. Well that's awesome. One game is the deciding factor for you. Forget all of the other games he's coached. Forget all of his high ranking offenses. Forget all of the QBs he's developed. Forget all of that.

I bet I know another thing you're forgetting. Eddie O's Ole Miss tenure. But surely O's learned from that, right? You know, because he said so.

Fisher costs 6 million. O would probably cost 3.

I'm not sure there would be a substantial difference between the 2.

O'Brien had Penn Stare relavent right after Sandusky.

Kelly had Oregon, which has substantially fewer built in advantages that FSU, near the top of the polls. Kelly IS a QB guru, unlike Jimbo. Petrino is as well.

shite, let's just hire Lovie Smith away from Illinois. He's lost a Super Bowl and won zero championships in major college football, just like Harbaugh. He's gotta be much cheaper and better than Jimbo, too.

And you come to this assessment because why? Is it because of the way the team has played in 5 games?

Jimbo had some bad games when he was the OC here a decade ago and you're holding that against him. If you hold stuff from a decade ago against O, your argument is complete nonsense. O was a joke at Ole Miss. He even had good OCs there and they still sucked.

There is literately no evidense that there would be no significant difference between the two other than you're "not sure there would be a substantial difference". Sorry, bud. I'm not risking the program on you "not being sure there would be a substantial difference". That's completely asinine and you should feel bad for some of your posts TBH.

I'll pay double for a real coach thank you.

I think there are about 2-3 swing games per year at LSU. One is Bama, and the other 1-2 roster depending on the year. So, out of a 12 game season, I think LSU's talent exceeds about 9-10 of the teams we play because of the built in advantages LSU has and the talent in state. I think Orgeron would continue the recruiting tradition. I think Fisher is also a great recruiter. It's pretty much a wash to me on recruiting. So, we'd maintain the talent advantage. Now the question becomes winning the 2-3 swing games. I hate Fisher's offenses. I always have. At LSU, he'd go ultra conservative versus defenses with a pulse. Orgeron isn't intimately connected to the offense. So, it comes down to whether or not Orgeron would hire a great offensive coordinator. If we're talking Jimbo the play caller, I think he's very mediocre. To me, taking a chance on paying a million to an offensive coordinator is as good as hiring Fisher.

Then it comes to defense. Fisher has no connection to the defense. I think Orgeron has more connection than many here claim, and I think he'd lend stability to that aspect when Arranda leaves.

I think Fedora is a superior play caller, but Fedora isn't the wash as a recruiter.

Miles began to lose to inferior teams also. We probably would have lost to either Ole Miss or Arkansas with Miles.

It may be a troll, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. Some people in this fan base have lost their minds. Some legit posters are calling for O over Jimbo. The end is nigh my friend...

ETA: I don't think it is. See his above post. Making all these assumptions. Judging Jimbo's offense because "he doesn't like it". Analyzing things based on a house of cards. Completely ignoring the fact that the only time Ed Orgeron was a head coach at the begining of a season, it was for the worst team in the SEC. ALL three years. But that's OK. Give him a shot at the LSU job, right?
