well, when all 8 are against rent-a-win teams and sec bottom feeders, and the rest of the losses are to the actual competition, it's a 0 win season imo.

LSU did not roll over his contract or extend his deal after LSU won eight and nine games after the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In fact after the 2009 season, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva called the 2009 campaign a "nice season," but wanted more from the program.
It was a "nice" season.....but not worth $3.8 mill. I like Miles and want him to stay but he must make the difficult decision on Crowton and he cannot accept everyone to be happy at winning 8 games. I know every program will hit a bump in the road...but there is a difference not only in winning and how you win. Alleva is right..some of the wins were lucky.

Les had the team 6-0 this season, and people still wanted him fired. It was the subject of national news articles. I can't blame him for feeling this way...

That's exactly the way I interpret it. I don't think he means he should be entitled to "cruise" with an 8 win average. This board never ceases to amaze me.

it all comes down to making it to Atl next year.
If he does that, he can have his 8 win season the following year and get away unscathed.

Hopefully LSU makes him fire Crowton if he does stay.

His worst season is 8 wins. He's won 11 4 times. The reactions here are why he thinks of leaving.
He got back to 11 with his own players, his own staff, and beat Saban when they were still in the NC discussion.
We're fine with him at the helm. Whatever it takes to keep him now, do it.

quote:Exactly. It got so bad on this board that I had to stop reading The Rant for a while. It's embarrassing how LSU fans eat their own.

A source close to the LSU program and a friend of Miles has told me the mad hatter is not looking to leave Baton Rouge. But he would like to see a commitment from the administration that he's not going to be fired after an eight win season.
HEY LES:
CAN YOU GIVE YOU A GUARANTEE THAT YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO:
1. F-UP THE CLOCK AND BLAME IT ON A PLAYER
2. HAVE OFFENSES FINISH 90TH OR WORSE THREE YEARS IN A ROW AND
3. GET RID OF CROWTON
Don't get confused by the fact that Michigan flew their plane down here (we don't even know that they offered). You've done some good things. But the reason yoou were going to be fired after eight wins if because you did some bat-shite crazy things and the whole world knows it.

Take a step back and look at the UNC & Tenn. games. I'm telling you guys, if Miles leaves, we'll be fine.
Posted on 1/11/11 at 8:39 am to Chicken
Mostly because of the Tennessee game.

Agreed.
You must be an idiot if you think he stands for mediocrity. Do you really not think he wants 10+ win seasons every year just like the rest of us? I'm sorry but 8 and 9 win seasons are going to happen sometimes. That's reality folks.

Maybe this will result in Alleva leaving. One can only hope.

If thats a reason, then he shouldn't be here

He isn't saying 8 wins consistently is acceptable, he is saying that in the midst of some NC runs if we have the occasional 8 win season he shouldn't be fired. I think this is ok as long as we are very good in most seasons. Down years are going to happen just ask Florida.

lets not disuade the way in which lost some of those games
it's one thing to get outplayed on the field by a superior opponent - but he makes some boneheaded decisions that have cost us multiple games
shouldn't a "luke-warm" grade be deserved for a "luke-warm" coaching performance?

Anybody know:
How many 8 or more win seasons has LSU had total ?

Alleva has said LSU will do whatever they can to keep Miles. Because of LSU's budget issues, it would be poor public relations to give Miles another half-a-million or million dollars more, even though state dollars are not used for coaches salaries.
Quote from the article for all the morons that keep saying the financial state of the university has no bearing on the ability to pay large amounts to buy out the coach.
For the last time... we know the school and the AD is separate but you aren't gonna see major devastating cuts to the university and at the same time huge payouts on the athletic side.
I know it's off topic but some people need reality. It's also a clue that LSU isn't gonna pay for a superstar...we'd go with the tried and true hire a coach from a lesser program that's up and coming.
