Would TCU's Dick Bumpas come here assuming Chavis

gary patterson calls and run's the defense.
i kind of like Everett Withers. the u.n.c. d.c. has pro experience and has u.n.c. in the top 15 in defense. he doesn't have a long history with the tar heels, you should be able to attain him for the right price. i like that he learned under jeff fisher.
ellis johnson is one of the best. not sure if you can get him.

That's the same argument everybody used against Muschamp when he was at LSU under Saban. Turns out he learned some things and has become a pretty damn good DC. I know that doesn't make Bumpas a lock, but don't automatically discount him either.

muschamp called the defense for saban. it was obvious who was making the calls. watch patterson in the bowl game when the defense is on the field.

Bumpas and Patterson are of the same defensive philosophy. What you see currently at TCU is closer to Bumpas than Patterson (although not by much). Patterson lets Bumpas make the in-game decisions and seldom supersedes his playcalling.
Bumpas, as well as the rest of TCU's coaching staff, just got a fat raise. As TCU is a private school, these numbers are not public. It's rumored that TCU's coaching staff is the 3rd highest paid in the NCAA.
TCU has 18 starters returning for next season.
Bumpas is not going anywhere.

I'm looking for a rcent story regarding annual salary estimates for members of SMU and TCU's Coaching staff. When Patterson's name was mentioned as a candidate for HC at Notre Dame, he responded by signing an extension with TCU through 2016, as did the majority of his assistants.
The raise accompanying this extension is said to place Patterson's annual salary in the $3M+ range with his top assistants (yes this includes Bumpas) garnering seven figures.
So consider the $$$ TCU pays combined with the relative lack of pressure (which accompanies most high-profile coaching positions) faced.... Throw in the fact that another university's "historic status" means squat to individuals committed to restoring TCU's reputation as a national power...
Trying to pry a coach away from TCU will prove to be EXTREMELY difficult, if not impossible.

Maybe the times have changed but didn't Franchione leave TCU for Bama?

Bumpas was once a Co-DC along with Pevito. This in itself eliminates him from ever being considered for employment at LSU.

Yep - Times have changed. After an exhaustive nationwide search for Franchione's replacement, TCU decided stick with somebody they already had - entrusting their program to a first-time Head Coach - promoting Franchione's DC Gary Patterson to the position (hence GP's fierce loyalty to TCU). The rest is history.

Another thing to consider: Gary Patterson and his staff have committed themselves to pursuing something that goes far deeper than individual accolades: Bringing a National Championship back to TCU while there are still members of the 1938 National Championship team alive. Period.
So...you may be wondering... How many players from that 1938 team are currently still living? Only five.
