Well if you believe that then it ain't gonna be Riley or any other big name. You think Woodward secretly negotiated with a coach and their agent for a secret deal and that coach's current employer never caught wind of it?

Also that coach would be an idiot not to let his current school counter if he was at an already established school getting paid a large sum already.

Your scenario only works if it's a coach looking to make a jump from the little leagues to the big leagues

Good AD's dont' play that game.

I would call it a business, not a game. Woodward actually executed a very good plan for transitioning the program to a new coach.

O is about to post a sub .500 season and that was apparent in October. Yes, there was a reason to fire him so that recruits understand the program is going in a different direction.

Lots of reasons actually. Really relieved pressure around the program, amicable departure, he's still recruiting for us without a shadow of his uncertain future, allows us to openly go after new coaches, gets coaches/agents a chance to court us throughout the season, etc.

The team and recruiting class have held up a lot better than if Orgeron was just on the extreme hot seat all year then can fired end of the season.

This has worked well, people who argue don't realize what the alternative is like.

Woodward had to make those phone calls anyway to try and keep the class together. You could still have O as the coach while you do that.

Again.. What is the point when no currently employed coach can make a move until after the season is over anyway.

Just because they aren't publicly "making a move" doesn't mean there is a flurry of activity behind closed doors.

You're not thinking this through.

Lolwut? The point in firing O that early in the season was so he could GET the guy. Not because he already had him. That makes absolutely zero sense at all.

There may well be a flurry of activity right now because #1, 2, 3 and perhaps 4 and 5 are not biting. And other schools are now making moves with bigger contracts and changing coaches too.

Who are 1,2,3, and perhaps 4 and 5? Who told you this list and the order? Who told you they aren't "biting"?

You're assigning failure to rumors. It's an epidemic on this board.

No one knows anything besides Lincoln Riley has a very large offer on his desk and has not made a decision. We don't know anything about any contact/interest about any other candidates.

Come on people.

Can you imagine if we hadn’t fired O, then the team found a way to beat Bama? Woodward knew what he was doing

Dude, this subject has been debated and beaten into the ground since O was fired. You don’t have to make a thread for every random thought in your head.

Literally anyone will be better than Ed O for the program. I am 0% concerned

The only reason I am optomistic is the way the Baseball Coach hiring went down. I dont remember the Arizona coach being mentioned a whole lot. Then he was named the head coach. Only time will tell but it looks like he was probably the best hire we could have made. Trust the process.
