Take Houston job, you get Tilman Fertitta money. You also get unreasonable expectations. Good Luck.

5 years of sucking under Dana Holgorsen may have tempered those expectations, although I’m not sure if they have the patience for a 4-5 year rebuild

If Elko goes to Aggy as now seems likely, Duke would be a helluva lot better job for Fritz than UH. This assuming, as some have said, that Fritz has his mind made up on leaving Tulane.

Personally, I don’t see why he wouldn’t retire in a no-pressure place that he has made a good program and proven that the right coach can win there. Just continue to have more winning seasons than losing ones and they’ll build him a statue.

If I was Fritz, I would go to Duke; at least he would not have to be bilingual.

They probably won't be as bad with that in the Big 12. In the AAC they expect to win it every other year but will probably settle for bowl teams and beating the remaining Texas Big 12 schools every other year.

What a mediocre job to move to. The city of Houston couldn’t give two shits about that program.

You understand that he currently coaches at Tuh-Lane, right?

You're talking about a significant pay raise and upgrade in instutional support for athletics, in a much larger city. The UH coach's shows draw larger actual attendance than Tulane home games.

Raleigh-Durham also a much better quality of life than Houston or NOLA

Fritz fits at Duke really well. Duke will give him a few years to get up and running, and he knows the private school run about pretty well.

UH would get him a little more money, but it's toxic - and they are still 5th banana in that area. (TAMU, UT, TCU, LSU, and even OU pull from that area as well).

Fritz is an expert at being disloyal and then randomly staying here. He's done it multiple times already.

I think he's telling his agent to put his name everywhere as a way to force Tulane to actually hold its end of the bargain - and this is VERY SMART considering what the prior Tulane admin liked to do.

I think Houston is a really good job. All the big 12 jobs are good. You get all of the advantages and the money of the power league, without having to face any power programs in your league. Much easier to win than at third tier SEC teams.
This is the job that has always worried me for Fritz

Eh not sure about that the unrealistic expectations part. I think they want to make a NY6 bowl game or win 9 games and be competitive. I don’t think that’s crazy dreams for the Coogs.

Houston is a better job right now than Tulane, even though Tulane has done a great job at making itself an acceptable one.

However, there are two snags I see:
- Fritz is 64, and that means he's looking for one final contract before retirement - does UH want someone younger?
- How fast of a trigger is there at UH? Are they willing to be patient like Tulane?

Houston fired Applewhite b/c he went 8-5 in his second year. The only reason Holgo got so much time there is b/c he's friends w/Tillamn Fertitta.

A lot of people still think of UH as a small commuter college, without realizing how much it's grown in the last 20 or 30 years. Their undergrad enrollement has caught up w/ the big state schools, and I think they now have more on-campus housing than any other Texas college.

They'r still behind the game on fan support, but that should change with time. Basketball just needed a couple good years in a row to start selling out.

Their rather talkative president got ahead of her skis talking big about 10 wins being the minimum expectation. No doubt Holgorsen was Fertitta's guy, and I'm surprised he didn't give him another year. But Dana made the mistake mid-season of saying that he wasn't on the hot seat because the school couldn't afford his buyout (YES, he actually said that). Never tell Tillman Fertitta that he can't afford something.

Applewhite inherited some good players. He lost 70-14 to Army in the bowl game that year. I mean he had weeks to plan for the triple option and still gave up 70 points. Plus nobody has given Applwhite a chance since. It’s kinda telling he was in over his head as HC.

I remember when Major Applewhite was coaching at Texas and had an affair with a Student Trainer.

You can’t trust a man like that to lead your program.

I can look the other way for an affair with Admins and other colleagues’ wives BUT it doesn’t work for undergrads.

He is 63 and must be thinking about post football years if he wants the UH gig.
