Why would you choose gruden over Strong?

Excuse my Ignorence but Gruden was a college wide rec. coach. I know he was head coach in the NFL
at Oakland and led Tampa to a superbowl. But he has very little college experience. Can he recruit? Although he has had great success in the NFL that doesn't allways translate to being a great college coach.
The DC at USC was a great NFL DC but has failed in College. Look at the college coaches that were great college coaches and failed in the NFL!
Saban, Steve Sper.,Etc......
Strong is a proven College coach. He was a good DC at florida, and a great recruiter to. Even at Louiville he has done a great job recruiting.

People are gaga over Gruden and rightfully so. He has a great track record and resume, however, in his book "Do you love football?" He states a few times that he did not enjoy coaching in college. He wants to X and O and out scheme people. He didnt like dealing with recruiting or worrying about kids going to class and dealing with boosters etc. Of course that book is almost 10 years old so he may have changed his mind but I find it interesting that no one else has mentioned it

Are you kidding me?
Charlie Strong is not the name Gruden is. The guy can flat out coach offense and would be able to recruit nationwide. Plus, he would bring in a damn good coaching staff. Gruden changes the UT culture overnight.

Gruden has had 3-4 good seasons in his career and when he did, it was with QB's in their late 30's that could grasp his unnecessary verbiage. Of course guys like Sapp, Brooks, Lynch, Rice and Barber didn't hurt. I don't get the fascination obviously.

Gruden is a good but unpredictable hire. He may do well he may not. We do know that he doesn't like college as much as the pros because he doesn't like recruiting.

As a lifelong Buccaneers fan,and having watched everyone of Gruden's games here in Tampa. His offensive scheme was mediocre at best go back and look at where his teams ranked statistically. If you like passes of less than 5 yards, then he's your guy. His offenses ranked 18th, 18th, 20th, 23rd, and 31st in the league while he was in Tampa.

I am one of the few UT fans who wants Strong hired. If we hire Gruden I won't mind it but I think that Strong would be a great hire. Hart wants to unite the fanbase and to do that they want a homerun hire in Gruden.

fairly well known that Gruden hated coaching rookies. now he's going to be taking on 25 "rookies" every year. Now if Dungy had been at UT the last few years to build him a foundation, then maybe Gruden could get them somewhere in college.

yeah i've been anti-gruden (in college) for years now. LSU fans love to push for him, but i just don't see him fitting as a college coach. his offense was too complicated for NFL vets, and installing west coast scheme in college has a bad track record (it takes too long to learn, and in college that will frick you)
he also has stated that he doesn't like recruiting, so this magical "oh he'll recruit nationally" myth may not be close to being true
he'd have to basically be a CEO-type HC to make it work in college, and if that's the case, why hire him?
also, if any of these rumors about his contract are close to true, it just adds more layers to the worry
