Why overpay…?

Riley: 12 mil? He needs some amazing defensive coaches and recruiters to be elite, and those cost a lot.
Jimbo: 11 mil or more to lure him away? Plus his staff that has a lot of buyouts to get them to come. Given he has one natty it’s not horrible, but way more for the performances he has had in recent years.
Napier and Aranda: 6 mil? Who knows who would be on their staff, but I think it’s more reasonable.
Others: how much you think the other options would cost.

Pimpin' aint cheap. Get the best coach possible and they will pay for themselves. Today's overpaying could look like a value in the near future.

Because the major boosters want a real coach and are willing to pony up to make it happen.
Plus the contracts are about to go up significantly. 12 million a year won’t be that unique 5 years from now.

If the coach like Riley or Jimbo doesn’t work, why pay them that? So many people bitch on this site, so why bother even hiring them with those contracts.

LSU was paying Coach O $9m. We're getting an extra $20m from the TV rights renegotiation. I have 0 doubt in my mind we'll offer up $12m+ for one of the S tier names.
You may end up right we get someone outside of that tier (for less), but money isn't going to be an issue.
