re: Why is LSU holding on to the 3-21 stat so much?

past performance does not indicate future results

Please elaborate as to why you think 3 wins over teams with a combined .500 record (outside of their LSU losses) and a 6-2 record as an interim coach at USC is enough to overcome an absolutely putrid record as the full-time, non-interim head coach at Ole Miss.
Go back and read again. I didn't defend his record. It's the narrow minded folks that only see the 3-21 recored and nothing else. Just like the narrow minded folks in here that think Herman walks on water for what he has done with the mighty Houston Cougars. And on and on and on...
For the record I like O a lot. That said, my first choice is Chris Peterson, although that won't happen.
So yeah, I win.

What other full-time HC experience are we missing?

The only certainty about hiring a "proven" head coach is higher cost.

i would argue that it is even more narrow minded to assume that the ONLY thing people look at is 3-21. It is, imo the most important thing, but by no means the ONLY. Just as I don't look at ONLY what Herman has done in his 2 years a HC. I look at a guys entire resume. But that's hard, it is much easier to cherry pick and build strawmen to "win" arguments on the interwebs.

Perhaps O would be great as the full-time LSU coach. Nothing suggests that other than hopefulness originating from better performance as an interim coach. He certainly is an effective interim coach, but the only apples to apples comparison is his record as a program-managing, assistant-hiring, full-time head coach. That record suggests he is a bad head coach and unqualified to coach LSU.
If you're equating "narrow minded" with using the most relevant data points to assess his fit as a ful-time candidate at LSU, then ok. "Open minded" for you then seems to be non-analytical and non-empirical optimism.
I'll use my approach in life and you use yours, and then we'll see who wins.

why are you guys holding a stat that happened years ago on him?
If he were 21-3, and you were arguing in favor of Orgeron, would you use that stat as an argument in your favor?

LSU and decision makers have said nothing about Coach O record. What you read here from biased fans.

Games this year tell us NOTHING about his ability to build and sustain an elite program. But his time at OM does give us that insight.
Why so many miss this key point is mind numbing.

This, it is classic short term, emotional thinking.

It's one of the stats we have to go by at this time. He failed at Ole Miss years ago, then was a success at USC. He ahs only coached for games at LSU and that was against bad teams. So it is way to sooon to ask that question. We, LSU Fans, need to let the season play out. Of course if LSU were to somehow win out, most likely most everyone would be in favor of him at least getting serious consideration. It's just way to soon to have that conversation right now.
As of right now, yes LSU has looked good since he became head coach, but keep in mind the teams they have played against. He has also had the benefit of having top notch coordinators and assistant coaches working with him. Who knows if Ensminger, Aranda, Grimes, Peveto, Juluke, Raymond, Jenkins, and Craig will all be here with him next year, if he is hired, to keep it all running so smoothly. So there are just a lot of questions about Coach Orgeron right now.
