If only beating Bama is all that matters, let's go hire Hugh Freeze who has beaten Bama two of the last three tries and his loss was a one score defeat.

Ed Orgeron does not have the resume to be LSU's permanent HC.

He has been a permanent HC once and he was fricking terrible. He has been successful as an interim coach, just like dozens of other terrible head coaches.

Do we want another HC that recruits well but isn't very smart and doesn't know shite about X and Os? We will just wither in mediocrity even longer.

Because Bama is obviously our toughest test left on our schedule and they are the consensus best team in the country right now. If we beat Bama the underlying thought is that we should be able to handle the rest of the schedule. Now if he beats Bama and then goes 0-3 the rest of the way he won't be getting the job.

So we should hire Hugh Freeze, right?

Ok, and what about in the seasons to come? What in his history as a HEAD COACH, not INTERIM Head Coach, has shown you that Coach O is the man who needs to run this program long term?

Its very short sided to say one game in one season is enough to put him over the top, anyone can beat anyone in one game.

You can't compare Miles and Orgeron. Miles wouldn't let his OC do anything Miles didn't want done, he micro-managed the offense and all of our OC's. Orgeron so far has stayed out of Ensmingers way and let him call the game.

Orgeron has publicly stated that he made "the micro-managing mistake" when he was at Ole Piss and he has learned from that and won't do that again. And so far he is proving that to being the case.

If we get the right OC & DC at LSU, I think Orgeron would be successful at LSU

What do we even need Coach O for as a HC then? To recruit? He doesn't need to be HC for that. To motivate the team? Doesn't need to be HC for that either.

I'm done fighting the O battle, just going to let it play out and hope the admin. isn't nearly as short sighted as many of our fans seem to be.

I think most are saying a little bit more than "all he has to do is beat Bama".

Most who say that are really saying, if he beats Bama, that's a strong indicator that he can make this program play at the highest levels. Furthermore, given that he's already beaten Ole Miss, he would be staring at an A&M, Florida, Arkansas finish to play for the SEC championship with an outside shot at a playoff birth. That would be a turnaround that cannot be ignored.

The short of it is this...if LSU beats Bama, make no mistake that Orgeron will be the leading candidate for the job at that point. I don't think it will be given to him at that point, nor should it. He'd have to finish the job. But, he would have overcome the biggest obstacle on the schedule and presumably would have a rejuvenated, hungry team for the stretch run who is totally behind him.

I don't know, I have read many comments the last three days that read, "if we beat Alabama go ahead and make O the permanent head coach on Monday."

Don't give up the fight. If they think the fans want O, we're doomed.

This really is the bottom line.

It blows to be a fan of this team in the first week of November every year. 5 straight times we have lost to them. Everything we do as a team does not matter if we cannot beat them.

To be clear, I don't think O will beat Bama anyway so I'm not saying he is the one. Not even saying he is the one if he does. Just trying to explain why fans feel this way.

...this would be a coach that had gone undefeated in 7 conference games, beaten Bama, A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida...won the SEC Championship game against Tennessee...with Ensminger as his OC.

LSU would be on the cusp of a playoff team at that point. That's not mediocre.

Sure, it'd prove he can have success when all the pieces are in place. However, we have no proof he can get the right pieces in place when some of them leave. Are we going to hire another Coach to be in charge of hiring the OC/DC?

Yeah, like there are SO MANY posts stating that if CEO loses every game but beats Bama he should be head coach of LSU. Do you make shite up in real life or only to make crap posts on the Rant?

Your standards might be a bit high for this board then. People are coming out of the woodwork to give their opinion on this because it's the first time LSU has hired a coach in over a decade and about 90% of them have no real idea what they're talking about. There is no reason to even waste personal energy talking about any of this until the regular season is in the books, treat it as entertainment only and you'll enjoy it a lot more.
