You better be trying a weak troll. If you're serious I'm sorry, but you're retarded.

Dak Prescott.
I think he's a good coach but hasn't proven he's a great coach.

is it really all that impressive that he has maintained MSU as a below average team?
Considering the strength on his schedule every year, yes, it is impressive.
MSU was 17-55 in conference play since 2000 before Mullen arrived. They've had 9 8+ win seasons since 1991 - Mullen has 4 of them.
Don't kid yourself about how shitty things were at MSU.

Rational thinking goes nowhere here. Each has their "guy" and no one else is an option. As for Mullen, he is a better coach than he is thought of around this forum.
He has the least amount of resources of all SEC teams and has done the best job at State of any coach:
mentored a 3 star QB (That Les wanted to make a tight end) into the 2nd best QBR in the NFL. Winston (a 5 star Jimbo protégé) is 14th.
He also mentored Alex Smith, Tim Tebow, and even Cam Newton.
He is one of the best offensive play callers: Utah, FL, and MState
He had MState rise to #1 in the nation the fastest in history and stayed there for 5 weeks.
The have been to 6 straight bowl games including the Orange Bowl.
And he took over a program that was a 6 win max program.
Why is his record so bad this year, it is called youth and lack of depth. He does not have 4 & 5 star talent that can start immediately, he develops talent. Let me say that again, he develops talent. We in BR do not see that very often. We have the most in the NFL rosters (more than AL), but we have not dominated each year on the field. Is the issue lack of talent, or coaching up these young men.
Also, most of his losses this year are similar to our FL loss. Mistakes and lack of execution to lose a close game they should have won....youth and inexperience will do that.
So Mullen's teams come in cycles when his kids have been through the system for a couple of years and they stay healthy because the backups are developing too.
And finally, why he has little sustained success comes to the resources. Little money, hard to recruit when your facilities are second tier in the SEC Arms Race. He cannot keep assistants, 3 DC's in 3 Years. Lost 1 to FL and another to Miami. You cannot have consistency without keeping coaches for one year.
I know none of this matters to most on this post and will get down votes for thinking rationally, but I thought I would answer the 2 sincere inquiries on this post.

You forgot to add that he has the personality of a crooked log

He is a dak away from finishing 5th in the west every year. He has had 1 good year, that's it
So, he cashed in with his once-in-a-generation player? More than I can say for other programs I can name...

So an under the radar QB he found and coached to absurd levels is a knock against him, yet Tom Herman is #1 on the back of Greg Ward?
Everything you say is small picture. The overall, continual success of a program is more important than the occasional superstar.
Tom Herman has a high, yet unguaranteed, ceiling. Mullen can take his 7-8 losses and coach somewhere that is not LSU.
Do you really want Mullen or is this a troll?

MSU was consistently last in the west before he got there and he turned them around similar to what Saban did at at Michigan St. Before we hired him. I think the ceiling he's at has more to do with MSU than Mullen. The problem is he makes $4.8 mill a year. I don't think LSU wants to pay 5+ for the perception that hire would bring. I think he could do more at a to program, but he's not the right hire for LSU right now.

Was not arguing that he was. He would not have "buy-in" in BR. He has changed agents, and I think he is finally going to entertain offers. We shall see. He could do well at Oregon....needs talent development and plenty of resources.

The ones here who are so enamoured with the flashy yet unproven young pretty coaches or the high end out of reach proven coaches are deluding themselves about what is possible for LSU. They are as bad as those who think we should settle for Orgeron on the other end of the spectrum. We likely wo t get Herman, almost certainly not getting Fisher and hopefully just as likely not settling for O.

I've seen his name in connection with the Oregon job should it open

Uh because he sucks. He's Gene Chizik mediocre coach who had an amazing quarterback carry him.

If Oregon fires Mark he's going to Oregon.

Is a fantastic coach. Would be a great hire. He's having a bad year.
He's working with almost nothing at MSU. He's second to Ole Miss in the state. It's like the Auburn job only they care a lot less.
He'd do really well here in my opinion. Great play caller. His freshman QB, who was ranked in the 1000s coming out of high school, looks pretty good at times. His numbers compare favorably to Dak actually.

He is a heck of a coach, and not coming to LSU so pull your panties from your crack. But do not lie about one of the best QB mentors in CFB.
He mentored Alex Smith, Tim Tebo, Cam Newton (for a short stint), and Dak maybe the best NFL Rookie QB in history that LSU wanted as a tight end. And this Fitzgerald kid is breaking some of Dak's records as a freshman.
And if your a Jimbo fan, How is Winston doing? about 12 QBR places behind Dak.
