why aren't people more upset that...

if LSU saw this Miles-Michigan thing coming, why didn't LSU put in a bigger buyout than 1.5 million? That is chump change for a school like UM and it probably didn't even cross there minds. On the other hand, if there was a 6 or 7 million dollar buyout (I thought Tubby has somewhere in that neighborhood), the school will think twice about it and make sure that he is the guy they want. Discuss...

why don't more people realize we should be paying michigan 1.25 mil to take him?

Probably because at the time Les was hired, Lloyd Carr had things going at Michigan....who knew....

because at the time, Miles was still an unproven commodity in the SEC and to have such a huge buyout would have been idiocy if he fell flat on his face here.
Luckily for him he did well and garnered enough attention to have Michigan come calling.

Because you don't "put changes into" a contract. A contract is negotiated between two parties -- both sides have to agree.

That was the smartest thing that Skip did. Now even smarter is we may waive the buyout all together. Anything to close the book on this dude.

$1.25 million buyout at that time was considered HUGE! I know it was only 2 years ago, but it was one of the biggest buyouts at that time. Not THE biggest, but big by the standards then.

Did you ever think that the $1.25 million figure was the process of a negotiation? Maybe, just maybe, LSU did ask for a higher figure and Miles' agent rebuffed it and the parties reached a mutually acceptable figure in the context of the broader agreement.
Not to mention that this is an employment contract and the buyout has an air of non-competition about it, which is disfavored under law. So a "HUGE" buyout as you put it ran the risk of being held unenforceable.

Why did Saban not have one at all? LSU can't just put in whatever they want into these contracts. It is nice to think LSU can do what they want, but these coaches have agents who are very smart at these things.

first of all, i gotta agree with CASH. let miles go. he isnt interested in winning more than 10 games here.
second, it takes both sides to sign a contract. which is why buyout clauses arent ever that high, or in sabans case, nonexistent.

We figured Saban's stint with the NFL would be over by the time Miles got the Michigan offer. We just didn't anticipate Saban going to Bama.

Because Miles was set up just like the Zookster... He was supposed to be the patsy after the good coach left.

People aren't upset because of Miles' inability to win championships.
