Why are two bowls for Vandy so important?

I continue to see people post “Mason took Vandy to two bowl games”
Yea and gave up 41 & 45 points, both loses in terrible bowl games.
Their schedule was full of mediocre teams, or SEC teams on down years, with losing records.
Less talent, but they won against less talent. Yes, there was an upset in there, but what am I missing?
Honest question, Can someone explain what makes Mason a home run hire?

Going to a bowl game is a rare achievement for Vandy

For years this board has always said Mason for DC whenever he gets fired from Vandy...
Now this board thinks he is another Pelini hire lmao
His Vandy's defenses were always "OK"... He has modern SEC experience and now imagine what he can do with LSU's talent

It's like Sean Payton winning a Super Bowl with the Saints, never thought it was possible

Honestly don’t remember that being a consistent thought amongst the majority, but okay.
I’m not completely against the hire, I’m just curious as what he’s done to be a home run, can’t miss hire. That’s what Orgeron needs, what LSU deserves.
I think we’re sick of the “let’s see” what Coach X can do with LSU talent.

LSU hired Ed Orgeron as HC even though his record at Ole Miss was abysmal. Mason at Vanderbilt was more respectable than Orgeron at Ole Miss.

If James Franklin never happened then that would be historic
Problem is James Franklin showed that you can win at Vanderbilt.
The right coach at Vanderbilt should be able to beat 3 cupcakes, 1 bottom tier power 5 OOC and take 2 games from the group of Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina, and Ole Miss every year.
6-6 should be the standard. If a coach meets that consistently at Vanderbilt then he's a good coach. If he doesn't he's just not a good head coach.
Vanderbilt has plenty of resources and the academic requirements aren't much stiffer than a number of other programs who have far greater success in weaker conferences

100% agree with THIS

I agree with everything you said. Maybe I don’t see what others do.
So you think it’s a can’t miss hire?
Honest question.

I’m not saying Mason would be a guaranteed amazing coordinator, but it really seems like people are nitpicking everything he’s ever done to say he’d be a terrible hire.

So how does this weigh in on his ability to coordinate a defense?

Mason
Overall 27-55
SEC 10 - 46
Orgeron
Overall 16 - 27
SEC 3 - 21 ( LSU, Bama, AU, UGA)
PAC 12 6-1
More respectable? considering the % are almost identical and Orgeron played against WAY better competition during that time. I would hire Eddy before Mason, and that’s not saying a lot.
At least we got a good recruiter in Orgeron. I’m still waiting to hear why Mason would be a home run hire. That’s the point here.
Right now I think it’s just another Hail Mary, let’s see, project.
