Why are people so adamant about counting year 1 against candidates?

Have seen folks try to throw shade at Aranda and even Tucker for how they performed in year 1 at their perspective jobs, why is that so?

I thought year 1 was all about instilling culture and complete buy in, growing pains are necessary.

We've seen what they're capable of after those things are instilled and installed.

Some dude on another board said he doesn't care how Aranda performs this year bc of how he did last year

It’s great to make an instant impact, but I generally Don’t count year one.

That being said, that means we have 7 games to judge a guy, not exactly a ton to gonofff of

Because they are absolute morons with no logic. Saban was 6-6 his first year at Alabama.

This is me, but it says a lot when a coach can hire in and coach up the current players enough to have a decent season.

because people are morons that will grasp at whatever to support their opinions

if your only judgment of a coach is based on his year 1 at a new program, it means you don't have much else to grasp

Most people claim to give them a pass because it was a covid year, yet will not give O a pass for the same reason.

that's a fair point.

I think what I'd like to see is if that truly an aberration or not.

In Orgeron's case, most things still looked the exact same.

No me

Usually, year 1 is year 1 for a reason. The prior guy shite the bed.

That's rarely a good set up for success.

It's different if year 1 is cause the prior guy took a better job after much success

I'm certainly not holding year 1 at MSU against Tucker. He was hired so late after Dantonio was forced out, you could argue he was legitimately hampered by Covid more than most.

That said, if you throw out year 1 for him at both his jobs, he has a 7-game head coaching record. And he brought in a ton of transfers for this season. There's almost nothing there for him to be considered a viable candidate for LSU right now.

Why are people so adamant to hire a coach with only one year of head coaching experience? It cuts both ways.

And 4 of those wins are vacated -

He's only lost 18 games in the 14 seasons since, and at least a few on miracle plays (of course that evens out, he's won some very big games on miracle plays himself, but still).

In 14 full seasons at Bama, he's only lost more than 1 game 6 times, including that first season. :letthatsinkin:

(Sidebar: Of his 24 total losses at Alabama, 9 have been to Auburn (5) and LSU (4).)

People are always looking for a national championship winning coach whose never had a bad game or bad season and recruits at an elite level with zero off the field baggage who also doesn’t cost that much money to leave the current situation where they are hypothetically doing all of the above already

Shockingly those people always end up disappointed.
