Who was LSU’s #2?

First of all, let me say that thank goodness we landed Kiffin. Impressive all around. Just for a fun thought, who do you think was LSU’s second choice if Kiffin didn’t come?
I think Dillingham & Drink were the next calls. Thankfully Drink extended with Mizzou. The way Dillingham chirped and got his high horse after the Kiffin hire made me think he definitely interviewed and was bitter about not getting the job.

Kiffin was number 2 after Saban. No one else was seriously needed after Kiffin.

I don’t think there was a number 2. LSU went all in and got their guy.
Now if things went sideways, I’d guess that Drink or maybe Sumrall would get a call. I don’t any of the guys like Dillingham or Key that are at their Alma Mater would get serious consideration.

None needed
We just fired Kelly at the perfect time and got our guy that mutually has always wanted us as bad as we wanted him

I hate to think about this.

I think it went:
1. Lane
2. Dillingham
3. God knows

Didn't someone report that Drink was the backup plan? That's the whole reason I jumped aboard the Lane Train so much.

Colonel Reb was #2. He’d have jumped ship easily.

Drink was the internal backup plan. He signed his extension only after Lane to LSU was a done deal. Sauce: Someone who works recruiting at Mizzou.
Dillingham was the public backup plan.

Sumrall, and then Blake (allegedly)

My gut tells me it was
Saban 1a
Kiffin 1b
Saban being retired and a longshot was probably our "hopeful", with Kiffin being our more realistic #1.
I would think Sumrall was our #2 but we were so confident that it never even made it that far.
