Please try to be reasonable. Tony Dungy isn't coming to coach for LSU

My top candidates in no particular order:

Jack Del Rio
Spurrier
Rodriguez
Mike Leach
Crowton
TT

Somebody should hire Paul Johnson from Navy.

I was pulling for him before I thought saban was a real possibility for our team last year. I actually hope he doesn't end up at an SEC school though, because it's tough enough without another good coach in the league.

Do you think he's a realistic candidate? I don't

And I think Saban would rather be at LSU. Just don't see him leaving after one year on the job

I do. No buyout in the contract, much easier recruiting, a shot at a title next year even, plus he's said that it was a mistake to leave. I think he wants to comeback, and I think he would make it his last gig (unless something crazy happens like the Patriots come calling)

I think most of the names being bandied about (Spurrier, Saban, DelRio) won't pan out for a variety of reasons. I think Paul Johnson and Jason Garrett are the two best candidates who aren't being mentioned much. Perhaps they're not being mentioned because there's no way they'd come to LSU (esp. Garrett, I'd say). Muschamp is a wildcard, but Mike Archer is still in most LSU fans' memomory.

I see your point. I just don't see him leaving Bama after one year.

I definitely don't think that he wants anything from the NFL again though. If he were to jump ship at Bama (which I think is highly unlikely) I think he would come to LSU.

Nice list P'man. I'm going to go for a different approach...

not Saban
not Spurrier
not Pelini
not TT
not Jimmy Johnson
not Petrino

I'm ok with being patient and letting a good search process find LSU it's next great coach.

Del Rio would be my first choice!

Spurrier 2nd choice!

Muschamp the darkhorse(cheaper) 3rd pick!

I think Saban is not a good 1st candidate for the HC position because he is a hot head when things go wrong. I know Saban regrets ever leaving LSU and he hates being at Alabama. Alabama is too hillbilly for his tasting and LSU is like being at Michigan State, homey and friendly with vigilance. I would like to have Del Rio as the first choice and Saban only as a back-up if we can't find a suitable coach. Spurrier is too old and I'm afraid we will be searching again for a new coach in a few years if selected.

I was partial to the Del Rio rumors when Saban got hired. I have a question, how do you hit the recruiting trail when you have no experience recruiting?

Something like this...
"I played and coached in the NFL Johnny...and if you come to LSU and play for me I know you will play in the NFL one day too..."

Brian Kelly is my favorite because he is still young and could stay 10-15 years.

Think he knows about recruiting?
He was recruited by USC. All he has to do is sell LSU and himself. Check out his resume. LSU shouldn't be too hard to sell.

Spurrier is to old . I think he is in his 60's.

Boise states coach is proven and would come.
