Where are all the articles melting over Sumrall leaving Tulane?

The national media doesn't care about G6 teams, so Tulane is irrelevant to them. If Tulane were in the SEC or Big 10 and this was happening, there'd be articles.

You're proving my point of OP

quote:

The general trend in this media melt is the dishonesty that Ole Miss is a major program and a title contender this year.

There is very little difference in a lower-tier SEC school like Ole miss and a top-shelf G6 team.

I’m going to skip past your personal scorn for anyone who dares argue with you on TD. Not sure why that was necessary.

What actually interests me is the sheer volume of hate Kiffin and LSU are catching right now. My question is: would the reaction look the same if he’d chosen Florida or another school instead?

General media? Yes

Dan Wolken? Probably not. He legit hates LSU. Has had a vendetta since at least the Will Wade stuff that he tried to turn into a bigger story than it was.

The national media just can’t come to grips with the fact that LSU is a top 5 college football job that almost every college coach would die for. Joe Dean ain’t running the show anymore.

They don’t respond this way when USC pulls a coach from a perennial playoff team (4 team playoff at that). They didn’t cry when Deboer coached the national title game and then left for Bama the following week. But let LSU pull a coach from Notre Dame or Ole Miss (are y’all serious wirh this love of Ole Miss?) and the world is coming to an end.

I knew wolken would be outraged. It’s amazing me to they cover sports they know are cutthroat but act shocked when cutthroat shite happens.

Another paradox the media doesn't address by their illogical argument is that programs like LSU aren't looking to hire coaches who can't make the playoff, so coaches who make the playoff are just...off limits?

LSU isn't looking for safe 7-5 coaches to hire.

I'm just ready for this story to die.

It's way overplayed.

Exactly. This is part of my "They are promoting dishonesty that Ole Miss is a legit contender and can be one in the future" argument.

Kiffin is just the first because the 12-team playoff is relatively new.

The media pussies who wish they were real journalists are just going to pretend it's some precedent.

T'Athletic chimes in

Of course, they start as I predicted:

quote:

As if Lane Kiffin leaving a national championship contender and trying to weaken it on the way out the door to a more advantaged rival weren’t nonsensical enough, we had to hear all weekend how Kiffin should be allowed to coach the Rebels in the College Football Playoff.

quote:

And then there’s the way Kiffin handled the scrutiny, such as his outburst at On3 reporter Ben Garrett for a podcast comment about turning “a ho into a housewife.” Look, that won’t go down among podcasting’s greatest moments, but the point is that Kiffin has a history of leaving (or getting invited out of) stable situations. He’s a climber, sometimes to his detriment.

The way Kiffin confronted Garrett, daring him to call him “ho” at the presser and “see how it goes,” was as impressive as an eighth-grader stealing an 8-ounce paper milk carton from a fifth-grader. Had Kiffin stuck around, there was a pat on the back and a “Kick me” sign in Garrett’s future.

Somehow they out-Wolken'd Wolken. I can only imagine the insanity he will come up with to reclaim his spot

quote:

Kiffin could have made history at a place that lifted him up as much as the other way around. Instead, he became a coaching cliche.

Cliche, you say? Like repeating the media-NPC meme of "he could have made history" at Ole Miss?

quote:

A few years ago, notwithstanding his behavior, it would have been harder to blame Kiffin. But look around at the ups, downs and out-of-nowhere success stories in college football. Look at the coaches who are eschewing traditional promotions to stay at places they’ve made relevant. Curt Cignetti at Indiana. Clark Lea at Vanderbilt. Rhett Lashlee at SMU.

Thing is, even the Ole Miss angle is a smokescreen for these writers. Bottom line is he left for a job he wanted more. Doesn’t matter if it was for money, greater chance of success, or he likes the food better at Parrain’s. Sure the timing sucks but the nature of the job dictates that he takes it now.

The same will be true if one day he leaves LSU in the same manner and the same timing for another school. Media is just angry they can’t dictate to people what THEY think they should do. Much like what they do in general.

Again, because the media really doesn't care about G6 programs. They don't serve as good click bait.

Ole Miss vs. LSU, two SEC programs, with the former currently in the Top 10, does.
