Mack Brown came from North Carolina and did ok.

"ok" is about how I would sum it up.

2 conference titles in 16 years. 1 national championship. He's Mr. February but just doesn't turn that into results on the field.

I'll laugh at Bama fans if Texas gets Saban.

I'll laugh at Texas fans if they push Brown out and don't get Saban.

Either way, it's gonna humor me.

I would argue it was. After the sanctions and with probation winding down Alabama was in a perfect spot to rekindle the magic of its rich history.
Sanctions aside, one coach had done anything special at Alabama since Bear Bryant. One. Let's not act like it was (or is) a place where any good coach can win big.

I'm sure there will be some morons who will melt. Most of us realize Bama will be right back in the mix if the right hire is made. And if the wrong hire is made it will only be another few years before we get another opportunity to make the right hire again.

Name one place that is, or name one place that has had more coaches win big than Bama. You realize Bama has 5 coaches that have won titles, and even when Bama was down (by Bama standards) for periods between 1982-2006, every coach had at least one 10 win season and 3 of the mwon SEC championships.

So far, I've found it all very amusing.

The arrogance on both sides of the equation has been astounding. Somebody's about to take a mighty tumble one way or the other.

Bama won titles before the Bear and will still win titles after Saban. Of that I am sure.

That's all well and good. The titles in the 20's and 40's don't mean shite to winning today. To act like Alabama would be nationally prominent as some kind of guarantee if they hadn't caught lightning in a bottle as Saban was staring down failure in big boy football is laughable.

Bill Curry won an SEC title at Bama.

Let that sink in for a minute.

No, they don't. But titles in the 20's, 30's, 40's, 60's, 70's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's, point towards a history of winning, and actually shows, yes, most good coaches have a very good shot of winning at Bama compared to other schools. You didn't name a school that is easier to step in and win big

Bama is a top 5 job, but who wants to follow Saban? You would get no credit (see Les Myles)... The top coaches have huge egos.

Still Alabama will be able to hire a good coach, but my guess is that they give it to Kirby

Those titles in the 20's, 30's and 40's mean a lot more than you think. Bryant played on one of those Rose Bowl teams at Alabama. He doesnt come to Alabama to play football all the way from Arkansas if they didnt have a great program.

He surely doesnt leave Texas A&M if he had not played at Bama..."mama called" ring a bell?

In the context of history, someone 30 years from now could say that the titles won today dont mean anything. They may not to them, but they certainly do to us.

This may be the case. That would be a hit or miss situation but at least in that situation Kirby could probably ride the success Saban had to at least 1 SEC title and then Bama could start over from there. Either way Bama will be fine.

The SEC schools that would be hurt the most by Saban leaving to Texas would be LSU and A&M because of Texas recruiting. It makes it strange that LSU fans want him to go so badly.

Everybody has made this a Nick Saban or bust thing.

Mack needs to go no matter what. His results are crappy. The fan base has left him. He quite sending guys to the nfl like he should. Really the only thing Mack has is some big money guys that he is buddies with standing by him. Hell he even got his best friend Delos Dodds fired.

I have no idea why Mack would even want to come back. Next year would be another 8-4 pain train year from him.

With any job you shoot for the very best first until they say no. Saban hasn't said no yet but if he does, you move on to the next best. Mack would be way down that list and deserves to go.

The great majority of posts here over the last week were made with the sole purpose of trolling the most hypersensitive fans in sports.

Saban to Texas would be a net positive for LSU. With that being said, he's not going to Texas. I've never said he was. He will be getting a huge raise and is making sure that Alabama fans and administration realize how lucky they are to have what they have after receiving some rare criticism post-Auburn.

Anyone who thinks Terry Saban accidentally let it slip that they felt unappreciated to a major national paper or that it was a coincidence that Sexton went on record that Saban would consider Texas is a total fool.

Texas is certainly a top job but it isn't the job it was just a few years ago. You simply can't ignore what has happened in conference realignment and the disaster that is the LHN.

Conference realignment has taken Texas from being in arguably the 2nd best conference to the 5th and that isn't changing. The BDF is a disaster and you have 8 programs that no one cares about and are very limited in terms of potential along with a declining OU. Their exposure level is pitiful now compared to where it was. That's a major problem, especially because Texas has A&M as an SEC school 90 miles away, it's not like OSU or USC where all of their nearby competition is also in their conference.

The LHN is a huge problem and I don't know how people are acting as though it is a positive. No one watches it, I can't imagine a recruit or coach wanting to have it vs a conference network. The only thing it guarantees is 3 of their games, their coaches shows, and a lot of their programming isn't seen by anyone. How is that a good thing?

Texas also has fallen back on their facilities. Their weight room still looks like it is in a cave even though they just renovated it. They would rank middle of the pack in the SEC at best (I would put Bama, A&M, LSU, and UT above them easily). They got ahead of the curve several years ago but everyone has caught up and surpassed them now.

Texas has never had a great gameday atmosphere that impresses recruits. Ask any Ole Miss fan what they thought of going to the Texas game this year vs an SEC venue. It's big but its like going to an NFL game with no beer.

Texas does have money. They do have a great brand. They do have a great city. They do have history and winning tradition (though it isn't as great as they portray).

There is no doubt Texas is still a great job and for some it may be the best job. It just isn't the job it was a few years ago and it won't ever be again. Personally I think there are very few coaching jobs that can compare to the Top SEC jobs because of the built in advantages going forward with the SEC. The SEC dominates every relevant category of measurement in college football from NC's to Top 10 teams to stadium size to athletic budgets to ratings to recruiting and on and on. The game is just different now. Just wait until next year (or maybe the year after) when the SEC ends up sending 2 teams to the Playoff and another 2 to the Sugar and Orange. No other conference has that type of opportunity and it isn't close.
