I wouldn’t.

Orgeron >>> Kelly. Hope LSU keeps him for a long time

I would say Orgeron is better than Kelly, except that ND beat LSU last year in the Citrus Bowl.

Kelly is actually 2-0 vs LSU, which is pretty surprising actually.

There is no reasonable basis for saying that. Ever.

So another utter humiliation in the postseason means nothing? Got it

Guess that means that Kirby's seat is red hot, since he lost his last two, including being thumped by Texas.

It's not Brian Kellys fault. Notre Dame needs to be forced to join a conference. They wouldn't have been thrown to the fire if they played in a real conference.

The Tampa ABC news said this morning that the Bucs are talking about going after him.

I think it’s warmer than people think (or, perhaps a better way to describe it, has a chance to get warm quicker than people think). He’s yet to win a BCS or NY6 bowl in nine years. He should’ve been let go after 4-8 in 2016. He was retained because he said/agreed he was going to completely overhaul things (“Kelly 2.0”) (and also, I think, because of the bottom paragraph of this post). That’s looked good at times but still resulted in a late regular season collapse last season and then an absolute embarrassment this year. I think this year has finally convinced people Kelly will never win a playoff game and will likely need the right matchup to win a major bowl.

Now, for some people, like myself, that’s not good enough. But I think a lot of the administration/alumni/fans are fine with that (i.e., no one can compete with Clemson/Bama), provided that ND stays “in the mix”. But if, for example, he were to go 8-4 next year, that will mean a full decade with no major bowl wins, and also destroy the notion that Kelly 2.0 will at least be able to consistently have the team in the NY6 hunt/win 10+ games.

But it would probably take a different AD for Kelly to be fired (barring an absolutely catastrophic season like 2016 or 2-3 in a row of 7-5/8-4). Swarbrick seems married to him. I also don’t think Swarbrick likes to admit mistakes and/or likes/is good at coaching searches. ND’s baseball coach (hired by Swarbrick) somehow for no reason at all is still employed. Once proud programs like women’s soccer and baseball have turned into laughingstocks under his hires but he won’t do anything. The best coaches at ND (men’s and women’s bball, men’s lax, hockey) were all pre-Swarbrick hires.

I ultimately don't see him at ND more than two more years. Next year ND should be somewhere between 9-3 to 11-1 (play @UGA, @Michigan, and @Stanford). In 2020 the bottom falls out again. Almost every key contributor from this team will be done after next season. The 2020 schedule appears relatively easy, but a 7-5 season seems completely realistic, and that is enough to have a "mutual parting of ways."

Yeah, I’m not sure he’ll ever be “fired” but could see a mutual parting/retirement. 10-12 years is a really long time at Notre Dame. I could see it happening the next time ND goes 8-4 or worse. I think if you reversed the 2019 and 2020 schedules, it’d probably happen in 2020. But the team returns enough next year (particularly if Love comes back. If he doesn’t that changes things) that they probably should go 10-2 and then the 2020 schedule is a little weaker overall.

How I see it is they go something like 10-2 or 11-1 next year and lose the bowl game. Then 2020 is branded a "rebuilding year" and ND goes 8-4 or 9-3 with some close wins/losses. BK says "look how good I did during the rebuilding year" and jets for the NFL.

Thanks for not being one of the leaking pussys in this thread and elaborating a bit lol

I had wondered, if the report was true about him interviewing with chicago earlier this year, if his relationship was fractured with the ad at this point in his tenure there

Not fractured with the AD - fractured with a decent chunk of the fan base and not a few significant donors.

I think Kelly will be gone either with or very soon after Swarbrick leaves, as Buckeye implies. I would guess that will be within two or three years.

He’s done enough to retain his job the last few years and has two very good coordinators right now. Life isn’t too bad other than being humiliated on a national stage again. We’re a schizophrenic program, and it shows. I think the Notre Dame board and administration are taking a wait-and-see approach with how the sport turns out over the next few years with regards to issues like pay-to-play, a possible minor league, and the like before fully bearing down and devoting nine figures and then some to trying to slay the Alabama/Clemson dragon. ND won’t play that game for better or worse, so we’ll see.
