re: What's the harm in giving O a 4 year contract?

O is #3. If our 2 other targets don't work out then we stick with O and give him 4 years contract. We need to make Herman and Jimbo say no first.
Well, i'm not keen on buying out Jimbo, but i think he is a much better fit than Herman. I don't see Herman going anywhere but UT.
So i guess the new question, is if Jimbo refuses, or we won't pony up the money, and Herman goes to UT, and if some here don't want O, who will you realistically think you can get?

In that case I think there couldn't really be a better hire than Ed O. If we hired somebody else, the entire fan base would get quiet and go into a sit-back-and-see mode, and we'd suffer some loss of morale among players. But if we hired O after testing Fisher and Herman, I think it would be the most harmony we could hope for among players and fans, plus I think there would be a great deal of excitement if our coordinators pan out.

Let me revise my post to a 2 year contract with an option to extend after year 1 depending on the results.
do you know how easy it would be to recruit against a coach with a 2 year contract?

Mistakes like this take YEARS to recover.
I can't understand for the life of me why people can't understand this. Let's just try Coach O, and if it doesn't work out, we'll just hire someone else. Nevermind the damage that could be done to the program in the meantime. The powers that be better not frick around with this hire.
ETA: I'm not advocating for or against O, just saying that the decision had better be made on sound judgement, not emotional BS.

You are very good with the quips and the smart aleck comment. Please give a very coherent and thought out argument as to why you think that Orgeron, if he wins out, would be bad for LSU? I will grant you giving anyone a 2 year contact is bad business.
I really do not believe that Fisher would do any better than Miles. His defense since Jameis' first year have begun to slip. Plus as I have said in a previous post, I think that if you want to beat Saban, it would be an advantage to be a stranger to Saban .Jimbo coached for Saban

Might be some merit to this line of thinking.

As long as it's a Louisiana man, who cares if we torpedo the program? His accent is way more important than his coaching credentials.

Recuiting for one.
The other thing is, you are admitting that this would be settling. If we are going to settle, why cant we settle for a guy like Jimbo or Herman that have very high winning percentages?

If Coach O and his agent see it that way, its possible he walks and goes somewhere else which would be a REALLY bad look for LSU.
Holy hell thats funny.
You think O is in demand enough to walk away from ANY contract from LSU? He could be offered daily contracts from LSU and would/should jump all over it. He MAY get another HC job, but it will be at a school close to the prestige of LSU.

Better make sure that contract has a very explicit buyout clause and isn't a guaranteed contract.

Depends on what his agent is telling him. But look at what he's done taking over mid-season twice and salvaging seasons for big time programs. USC looked like crap before they fired Kiffin, then CEO steps in and salvages the season going 6-2. LSU looked like crap before they fired Miles. CEO steps in and salvages the season and looks likely to finish 6-1. 12-3 record over 2 seasons as interim at programs with big expectations isn't bad. With his recruiting prowess, he'll get other offers as HC if LSU passes him up or makes a weak contract offer.
There's going to be enough major programs with job openings besides LSU...likely so far Baylor, Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon
