Against my better judgment, I am hoping Les goes to Michigan if that is what he wants. And while I see no need to raise his salary to keep him, why is everyone so freaked out about giving him more money? What the hell do you care? It's not your money.

I am not directing this to those who don't want more years added, I get that. I am just curious about the visceral reaction to giving Les greater financial incentives to stay.

It makes it less likely that he will voluntarily take a job elsewhere.

It is when TAF sends me the letter saying they are raising Fee's, charging for parking, raising ticket prices, etc.... which we all know will be the next thing to happen if Les's contact is raised or the assistant coaches get a raise.

Are you really asking this question? What are you, a 13 year old? Of course it is out money, and anyone who has season tickets (TAF fees) pays a part of the salary, whether indirectly or not.

The number of idiotic posts over the last few days has risen exponentially. This may take the cake though.....

I'm sure LSU will be glad to cover the extra costs out of the kindness of their heart, and won't expect the fan to pick up the slack.

I would rather LSU pay Miles 5 million than hire a dud for 2 Million. At least we know what we have with Miles.

I for one, don't believe he's earned it. When I pay premium price for something I want to know I received premium quality.

I'm not arguing with those that feel like the man is a football mastermind, despite his struggle to coherently articulate complete sentences.

That's my opinion. And I'm not saying the man isn't a Top 25 Coach. He's just making more than Top 5 money as it is.

I totally agree with this. Hell, throw in a million dollar bonus if he wins the NC. But for sure we need off the hook for that buyout.

I have no problem with Les getting a raise, but 1 million is a bit much it seems. Hell he is already a Top 5 paid coach and now Top 4 since Meyer retired.

I tend to agree with this......though the bad thing is that next year will be the true litmus test. If he can't win the SEC West with what he has returning/coming in next year........he may never get back to the top of the mountain. There will be no excuses, he has Mettenburger as a fall back, and as far as true impact players you only lose Peterson/Sheppard/Jasper.

At the same time, everyone wants a new jumbotron, remodeled concourses, wrought iron fencing all around the stadium, new windows on the old dorms, and all sorts of highly expensive projects done to keep LSU in line with the Jones'.....but God forbid we pay the man that keeps winning ON THE FIELD, because that comes directly from their personal TAF payment.

I do not see the need for name calling. frick both of you.

I am not saying that the costs of an increase would not factor in to an overall increase in TAF, etc. Hell, I am not arguing FOR the raise at all. I am just saying that the reaction to the idea is of a tone that implies personal offense, not a rational recognizing of the situation. Salaries are going up, bidding wars will take place, ticket prices and everything else will continue to increase. This is effectively an arms race, and it's not me who is being idiotic or acting like a thirteen year old

Which is actually pretty legit.

As stated. We are poised next year to own the SEC. Next year was the test.

Who is this everyone? Unless you mean a few people here and there

OK, but people don't want LSU to spend their money like a drunken sailor and get into an even bigger pickle should things not work out, and have to come begging.

The man has 1 SEC Championship, if Michigans wants to pay $5 million for that, I'm sure we can find someone who can do that for that amount or less.

CFB Coaching Salaries

As of right now Les is the 4th highest paid coach in America... a boost to 5 million brings him to only the 3rd highest coach. A boost of 400k brings him to being the 3rd highest coach as well.

To clarify, I am talking about the practical consequences of saying to Les, "hey, we want you to stay. We won't demonstrate that in any tangible way, but take our word for it."

It seems that there are some folks who want Les to stay, but out of just some noble sense of loyalty to LSU, when this is a busines decision as well as a sentimental one for him.

I agree. I want him to go. But that has not been either the tone or substance of a great many comments here lately.
